I currently have a k10D. Like the camera, kind of miss my *ist DL but I am over it.

as for lens setup.
50mm F1.4
50-200mm f4-5.6
100mm macro f2.8

I would like to sell the 50-200 and pick up the new 18-250mm

Does planning to be a Pentax user counts?

I'm new to DSLR and debating right now whether I should get the K100D Super or the K200D.

Hey, I have a K10D, the kit lens, and the 50mm F/1.4 as well.
Just picked it up but haven't had much to shoot.

How much does the new 18-250mm cost?

k100d here =)

50 1.4
50-200
18-55
m42 135 /3.5

the 50 and the 135 are both beautiful lenses...great optics

the 50-200.....bleeeh....

its not "bad" per se...but the IQ and sharpness/quality/everything is so inferior compared to the primes. at times i just bit the dust and use it because i don't have any choice BUT to use it when i want any kind of long reach.

...my 18-55 gets used more than the 50-200 only because i do use 18mm on occasion. if i get a tax return (will do it this weekend) I might end up getting a 30mm so i can a nice walk around lense...or maybe a 77 ltd ;)

i use the 50 the most - even though its a little long for a walk around lens, it works very well most of the time and has that IQ i'm looking for

the 135 is more of a "special occasion" lens when i want to go for head shots

I hear you on the 50-200mm. It works but that is about it. I really miss my 18-55mm that I unloaded with my *ist Dl. Pretty decent for a kit. The old glass is really cool. I need to hunt up ebay and craigslist to see if I can uncover any gems.

I suppose the 50-200mm is along the same quality is the plastic kit lens?

My dad had an old Pentax lying around and gave me two of his M42 lenses.
A 60mm macro and and 135mm /3.5
both are pretty nice and very heavy. I just wish that they could be auto-focus.

My hobbies are too expensive :(

Anyway, if you really miss the old kit lens, you should try to get the slightly better one that's being shipped w/the k20d

the new 18-55 has better QC than the older one. at both lenses bests they're supposed to be comparable. the old one had a much lower chance of getting a good lens, though.

get a focus screen

oooor

practice ;)

I still have to shoot few shots of the same scene to have the EXACT focus i want on the 135. Then again if I used it more maybe I'd be more comfortable with it ;)

yeah its piss poor...my first one came with lots of wood chips all over. It was all over the glass lense also. I exchanged it for a second one, but that STILL has the same crap (I checked the numbering) on it...but atleast it wasn't on the lens. That factory in Vietnam mos def (atleast at the time those lenses were made) had QC issues....and I'm sure it screwed over the whole batch.
Then again if you want a long reach....we didn't have much choice anyways. Finally it seems to be clearing up slowly, but >100m is in no way fleshed out the way <100mm is

^ Not me... but does anyone know a good place to rent a Pentax lens? Obviously it's much easier to find these things for Canon and Nikon.
I want to try out this 18-250mm in an upcoming trip.

KP, you might want to keep an eye out online as the K20D has been released so K10D sales/liquidations are likely to pop up.
