with 18-55mm zoom lens
Pentax

If you already have K-Mount lenses then $310AR
Pentax 2

Beach Camera seems to have decent reseller ratings and decent rep at photo.net

WOW

Did not like the feel of the pentax myself but to be able to get into DSLRs for $310..... Gosh maybe I need a second one my wife is afraid of my XT and still has her old pentax. How long has the K mount been out, I think her camera is from the 80s or so.

I"m pretty sure the *ist will work with any Pentax lens EVER produced. I think that's one of the big positives of the camera.

This sounds like a great deal. I've never been so tempted by a DLSR, but since I'm poor and just upgraded my p&s camera tonight, I need to fight the urge!!

It has me thinking, and I just bought my Canon A620. Hmm......

This is a really great deal. The fact that there's no tax for most of us and free shipping makes this a steal. The only thing I can really complain about the camera is a lack of rechargable battery. The rebate has me worried as well. One good thing is that the rebate looks like it can be used anywhere. But it doesn't say it can be used with the camera AND lens. The rebate clearly states it can be used with the body only. If you're buying this guy you may want to check into that.........

I would be leary of the rebate too with the kit. According to Beach, the mfg # for the kit is 18428. The mfg # for the body only is 18426. The rebate seems to be very specific for the body only, which has the 18426 part number on the form, along with a specific UPC number. I would call Beach at the very least.

I just bought the body, and it has been shipped. If you need cheap k-mount lenses goto www.keh.com. They have plenty of used stuff ranging from $14 on up. There BGN stuff is pretty decent.

BTW Pentax is coming out will a couple of new cameras he K100D and K110D, henc they are looking to clear these.

the guys at FW say that you should use the upc off the body part of this kit (ie, there is a upc inside the kit for the body) for the rebate.

For anyone looking to get into the dSLR realm, this is a good camera. Buy the body only and start looking around for any of the Pentax lenses from the last 40 years. Personally I like the fact that it is 4 AA batteries. Makes it more universal and cheaper to upgrade the battery capacity. I'm not sure what is different between this one and the *IST DL2, there are very few differences, probably the autofocus is a little less advanced. I'm almost tempted to buy this camera.

this is a great camera. I took this shot using a DL and a 30 years old Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 which cost me $45 and the bokeh is silky smooth.

get a tamron 18-200mm lens for about $389 . this will do all your needs and are made for dslr.

sony pretty much runs tamron these days.

from steve's
The *ist DL retains the 2 1/2-inch LCD monitor and firmware features of the *ist DS2, but offers a reduced cost by substituting a pentamirror for the *ist DS2's pentaprism, reducing the number of AF points to 3 from the *ist DS2's 11, and reducing the continuous shooting depth to 5 best quality JPEG or 3 RAW images.

I'm in, what do you guys think of this lens?

A 28-300 for 139 beans is not going to produce the best images anywhere in that range. The 28mm will actually look more like a 42mm, and 42mm is not wide enough for alot of snapshot work. I'd stick with the 18-55 kit lens for starters. 18-55 is a nearly ideal range of zoom for most situations.

Ok I bit, here are some pictures I took from last night. Bear in mind, I'm no photographer, but I don't think these turned out half-bad.
