Is it though? I’m watching people all over the political spectrum making a big deal out of this. Are we really concerned with a ballon that what? Can spy on us like the 100’s of satellites that already do? Or do we think China is just waiting for the right moment to drop a nuclear bomb from it and start World War III? Or should we believe some of the nonsense from the right who show fake concern over the balloon dropping some virus?


Like how dumb do we need to be and overreact before the joke is on us?

Im inclined to believe they shot it down due to the civilian growing… “interest” in the thing. Had it been any kind of threat or not a useful chess piece they’d shot it down first thing. I am willing to bet at least 10usd that us national security was at no point in any kind of danger beyond “meh”.

Uhh, Venus is nowhere near large enough to mistake for a 'silver sphere', nor is it visible in the day, so how on earth did they see an object at night that looked like a large star and mistake it for a spy balloon?

Also, those are fucking sailors, and they forgot what the big green star is? Give be a fucking break. They mistake Mars for the eye of sauron the week prior?

im sure the US has the means to jam the electronics on the balloon while just letting that thing float around.

FAA seems to be closing airspace in anticipation of a shoot down off the North Carolina coast.
 
This is getting really scary. At first I thought to myself, big fucking deal but now that I see what a massive news story this has become and the millions of hours of mental anxiety it is creating I demand the government build a giant robot cat that can jump thousands and thousands of feet in the air and bat that evil thing down. I need to turn my telescope back to watching my neighbors wife.

CNN reporting the balloon was shot with a missile and is now deflated. Looks like it's going to come down over water and we'll try to recover what we can from it.

Any scientific org should probably employ open communication with others, and gain permission to use our air space.
OTOH, why shoot it down as it is leaving? If it was going to harm us, it would have already done so.
