From a White House Report obtained by the Los Angeles Times

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&u=/nm/20020309/ts_nm/bush_nuclear_dc_2

The most interesting line from that article:

<< "The report says the Pentagon should be prepared to use nuclear weapons in an Arab-Israeli conflict, in a war between China and Taiwan, or in an attack from North Korea on the south. They might also become necessary in an attack by Iraq on Israel or another neighbor," The Times said. >>

Ummm and the point is? Or is this just informational trivia? Only an idiot would have these things, and not develop scenarios for possible use.

I think the point is that we're preparing nuclear weapons, which scares most people.

I dunno, just a thought.

What does "preparing nuclear weapons" mean in the context of the article?

Sounds like they're preparing plans to me

[Edit] Oops, looks like I'm right 🙂

:: Citing a classified Pentagon report, the Los Angeles Times reported on Saturday that the Bush administration has told the Defense Department to prepare, on a contingency basis, plans to use nuclear weapons against at least seven countries. ::

<< What does "preparing nuclear weapons" mean . . . ? >>

Preparing nuclear weapons:

1 - Knitting nuclear sweaters and mittens for each device
2 - Preheating the oven to 450 and poking 2 holes in each device
3 - Sending each device to the corner for 15 minutes of "quiet time"

LOL 😀

yeah this is about the third post of this topic today but this still made me laugh.

LOL. 🙂

I hate to break in here with some facts but, we have had contingency plans for the use of nuclear weapons since the 40's. They are continually updated as our inventories/threats change and they drive such things as bomber readiness and SSBN deployments. I really don't know what all the fuss is about except that created by the media who claim to have access to classified documents. Which I doubt.

You don't have weapons like this without a plan on how and why to use them. As mentioned above, as time and situations change and evolve, you change and evolve your plans.

Because, as usual, the media LOVES to blow stuff out of proportion to sell papers. One of our local papers today, has this story as a headline. They even used the special super bold, all capital letter, major news event font, and it reads, "US PREPARES PLANS FOR USE OF NUKES." I kid you not, that's what it says. If that isn't sensationalistic, paper selling crap I don't know what is.

Well, I was pretty shocked when I read that the US would protect my native Taiwan with nukes if China invaded. Anybody thinks the govt will really do that?

<<They've been preparing nuclear weapons since they were invented. Nothing new here.>>

Well, we always knew that there was a nuclear attack plan against the Soviet Union/Russia. This list includes more nations.

So you didn't think we had a plan to defend ourselves against everyone who we knew had nukes or that we suspected had nukes or other weapons of mass destruction. That would be kinda stupid of us, wouldn't it.
