Pentagon Moves to Keep Iridium Satellites Aloft

The Defense Department said on Wednesday it was stepping in to prevent $5 billion worth of Iridium communications satellites from falling to Earth and triggering possible ``widespread anxiety.''

It wouldn't surprise me if the DOD had some ulterior motive for this. 50-odd satellites free for the taking? I'm sure they could find something to use them for...

and to think I almost invested in Iridium a few years back. BOY, some people lost some serious cash with that company!

last i heard the iridium satelittes weren't coming down and some other communications company bought up the remaining satelittes...guess that never happened...i guess the government has more than enough money to waste then...OUR TAX MONEY!
