Even though it may be hard for us to believe, I think most people who purchase these Extreme CPU's do NOT overclock them. Me and you and many on this forum might think WTH??? Why not? But that is the way it is.

So, knowing that, a 3.2 Ghz part will sell for more than a 3.0 Ghz part.

Also, it is possible that link has incorrect information... Time will tell! I had no idea they were going to release anything 3.0+ Ghz in Q1 of 08.

they might have it on their roadmap just in case phenom ramps up more quickly than originally anticipated.

Because with the 3.2GHz version you're buying a it along with a guarantee that states it will work at this speed no matter what. With the lesser chip, you need to overclock, and in theory it doesn't have to run at 3.2GHz since it's not guaranteed to. It's a case of luck. Now the fact that these chips will overclock to such speed no problem is an all together different bag of chips.

That is a lot of extreme processors, hopefully they will drop the lower speed ones and the prices of the new ones.

I like the way they charge an extra $100 just to change sockets too.

Different customer base... I believe 771 is for the XEON platform which will be used in servers.

to be fair, you're probably right about oc'ing the EE chips. True overclockers are much more apt to get a Q6600 G0 than a QX6850 for 4x the price. We can also look forward to Q9450 in january and hopefully beat QX6850 even after overclocking!

I was wondering if someone else had heard this or not but when I was surfing the web I stumbled onto a 6ghz penryn OC but couldn't tell if it was real or fake. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Intel got 5.4GHz before IDF (5.2 at) so 6 might be possible.

thanks when I searched again today I found 5.4ghz but can't find 6ghz again I think I remember they said it wasn't stable but the pics also looked photoshopped though ( cpu-z read 500mhz fsb and a 6-9 multi but another program had 12 x 500)

screw this upgrading every month or every other month crap!!
I am really starting to get pissed off now.
I have computer parts coming out of my behind and its really starting to pile up.
Its cool that they are really ramping up the speeds but it used to be you could buy a cpu and not see anything new for like 6 months.
but now its like every month or 2 there is something new and better which makes me want to kick my self in the ass for buying what I just bought.
I think this whole vista DX10 gaming thing was a huge farce!!
I was lead to believe that I needed vista, dual or quad core this and that and DX10 Gpu this and that to play games like bioshock ect.. when infact last gens pc's plays those games just fine!!

Well now that I am done babbeling are these new quads from intel aleast real native quads or are they still taped 2xdual cores?
If they are true native quads then it may be worth it to upgrade again!!
It is good to see intel kicking some ass this time around though.

they are two dual cores put on one die just like the quads out now...the "true" quad core intels i think come out with nahlem if i am not mistaken

Don't get caught in the upgrade rat race. I last upgraded in July 2005 with AMDX2 4400+ with 7800 GTX. Hard to game in native resolution on my 24" display but I get by. I think my next upgrade will be either in January when Penryn quads are released or Nehalem in second half of 2008.
