Penryn Bug

CPUs have hundreds of bugs - no big news.

If an early stepping prevents Intel from stacking dies, they have the resources to repair the problem quickly and proceed to the next stepping.

In the big scheme of things this won't slow 'Chipzilla' at all.

Not a huge deal since they already know about it and have fixed it. This is only the mainstream ones though, performance segment is still fine. Also FUD is full of shit so until someone more reliable says the same thing I don't believe it.

Take anything on fudzilla with a couple truckloads of salt.

Funny how this isn't affecting the Harpertown 45nm quad-core processors...

But maybe, just maybe, this has something to do with the limited supply of e8x00 chips that have been undeniably launched but seem to be mostly MIA at this point. Perhaps Intel is doing the revision to a new stepping before really cranking up production.

Uh, this was news like 3 months ago when it became public knowledge that the stepping for their Wolfdales was limiting the FSB at which Yorkfield functioned versus when it would start to have data corruption issues.

It was also the same time where Intel said Harpertown (45nm XEON quads) does not have this issue because they are made from a different stepping.

Welcome to Dec 2007 Faud. I swear Faud is like the Peter Griffin of Europe.

Well, I do know if you input the correct key combination on the Pinnacle Pro Processor you might turn into a superhero/supervillian as seen here.

Intel have bugs? Never *cough* fdiv. Their quality control is way too good *gag* pentium. Besides, no normal user would ever use the feature that's buggy *gag*.

Imagine our surprise when we learned that the current E8x00 series of Penryn has a bug that would prevent this dual-core to work in a Quad-core.

Do they speak English in What?

Faud Azxcvbvc works at FUD because he couldn't even hack it at The Inquirer. I rarely bash people, but he is not a legit journalist in his wildest LSD dreams.

Just seemed odd that nothing about new steppings was mentioned at Cebit. Hence the skepticism and posting here 🙂

Even G0 stepping wasn't brought to the market with huge amounts of publicity. It was mostly the enthusiasts that made a big deal of it.

AMD stepping is big news because it was such a visible catastrophic PR nightmare.
