They both begin with 'P.' That's a fact. Here are a couple of others:

In particular, the S-shaped soft pretzel, often served with brown mustard, became iconic in Philadelphia and was established as a part of Philadelphia's cuisine for snacking at school, work, or home, and considered by most to be a quick meal. The average Philadelphian today consumes about twelve times as many pretzels as the national average.[34]

Pennsylvania today is the center of American pretzel production for both the hard crispy and the soft bread types of pretzels.[31] Southeastern Pennsylvania, with its large population of German background, is considered the birthplace of the American pretzel industry, and many pretzel bakers are still located in the area. Pennsylvania produces 80% of the nation's pretzels.[35]

SE PA represent! :colbert:

I'm a bit farther south, but pretzels are pretty good, and not too good. That means I can eat some without making a pig of myself, discounting soft pretzels of course. I'd happily eat those as a meal, and have numerous times. Soft pretzels are one of the only decent uses of yellow mustard.

You don't know pretzels unless you can say you have eaten them cold out of the back of a station wagon in the parking lot of the Vet after a game 10 for a $1

SW PA... and we eat plenty of them also. My favorites were Snyder's Pretzel Mix - pretzel nuggets with different flavors (onion, garlic, cheese, BBQ IIRC) in one bag. Haven't seen them in years.

Who doesn't love a soft pretzel? We have stores here where that's all they make.

I have to make soft pretzels where I am to get good ones, and bagels for that matter. Lye is my friend for both.

I went to Pennsylvania last year and visited a pretzel museum. It's just as boring as it sounds.

I'm from Southwestern Pennsylvania, now living in Colorado. I get a chuckle when I go to the grocery stores here and see the lame selection of pretzels.

Where I last worked, we'd make a Sam's Club run once a month and stock up on soda and snacks. Loved the big barrels of hard sourdough pretzels.

I was just going to say the same thing. When I moved from PA, I realized the rest of the country doesn't have a whole isle of pretzels at the grocery store.

That's the one in Lititz ?? Actually, we like it boring here in PA. Gotta keep the riff raff out .. too many NYC bangers showing up to ruin our pretzel fun ;)

A lil shout out to my friends at Sturgis, Gibbels, Wege, Snyders, etc ... we love ya !!

The wife is running about, sent her a message to get some sourdough pretzels damned you :)

Need to learn how to make the soft ones myself.

All ready had her picking up some summer sausage I hadn't had in ages, incoming heart attack soon probably :p

If you want to keep with the theme of the thread, you'd have her get some kielbasa, instead. It's a staple in PA. Also, some pierogi, with fried onions.

Oh yeah, and some pepperoni rolls, if you can find them. They may be more of a SWPA/West Virginia thing, but they're awesome.

Is it wrong to like the soft warm cinnamon/sugar pretzels more than regular with mustard? :X

I'm pretty sure it is :^D

When I get one at a pretzel shop, I usually get garlic pretzels. I love those things.

I love both. To my mind, the pretzel is an excellent medium for all sorts of tastes . . . which is why they go great with ice cream and with beer.

My motto? Don't get bent out of shape, get pretzeled!

PA Pretzels are the best. I like them but I still think PA's best food product is Lebenon Bologna, even better than Hershey and Philly Cheesesteakes.

Or you got them from the guy at the corner of Callowhill and 4th who keeps them piled in big flats on top of a milk crate. That's a goddamn pretzel.

Kielbasa is a staple here in the house all ready, I just wanted something to chop up with crackers and cheese :)

My wife is so great sometimes she just walked in the door and handed me a soft pretzel :p

I guess WAWA makes em down here, probably not the best, but still pretty tasty.
