Penn State Freshman Missing After Frat Party

I know that they were doing a lot of construction to one of the entrances that he was found at, so I definitely think it is construction related. The building has stairs around the entrances, but only a flight or two
It obviously wasn't the normal stairs because he would have been found at like 7 or 8 am by people going to the first classes

I also just heard he was apparently found by the stairs that go to the basement behind some dumpsters... who knows though

What is weird is that he left his sister's apartment at 1:45 AM to go to the frat... that's so shady. I'm not accusing him in the slightest but the only time I've heard of someone doing something like that is to buy drugs

Another thing, though, is it is still fraternity rushing going on (recruitment process for frats where they get interested people and show them what there frat is like, so they have events for a week or two)... so that might have been the reason, but I really hope not. Rushs do tend to get extremely fucked up at the events (free alcohol, trying to show what the frat can offer etc... actually fun)

ANOTHER THING... he was at FIJI which is north (west) of where he was found. The article said he lived at east halls which is essentially the complete opposite side of campus as FIJI (directly east, and then a little north)... so either he wasn't walking home or just extremely messed up

I tried to get you guys street view, but google maps doesn't have it for penn state

And oh my goodness... I just went to facebook and literally every single person's status is "rip joe dado"

I noticed the same thing when they mentioned what building the stairwell was adjacent to. He had enough semblance to walk, albeit in the opposite direction. I'd like to hear the results of the autopsy. Odd that someone finds their way into a cordoned off area only to fall. Hopefully some good will come from the tragic event- and underagers will at least travel in pairs.

FIJI is FRH and he was found @ DKE 2 buildings below that; both in quadrant G-3

Not to undermine this tragic accident. College kids do stupid shit when drunk. Not trying to judge, I did my fair share of stupid shit I could have died from.

RIP.

Sounds like this guy did something that thousands of people do at least once in college. It is unfortunate he went into an area where could he fall to his untimely death.

I feel so bad for his parents.

This. Many of us have been in a position where we could have just as easily wound up on the news as the other guy. Just, we didn't have the misfortune to have the day end tragically.

I know I'm gonna get shit from saying this, but maybe being the #1 party school isn't something to be so fucking proud of? RIP.

Without a doubt.

I'm sure they will find a way to blame the fraternity for this. They always do. Because you know without fraternities people under 21 would never consume a drop of adult beverage!

Logic fail. Being the #1 party school does not logically lead to death.

I can't say that I'm incredibly surprised. For years I've said I'm amazed more students don't die each semester at Penn State from alcohol related deaths. It seems to average around 1.5 deaths per semester (most often alcohol related, in front of suicide) which is absurdly small for how many students drink themselves into oblivion on a weekly/biweekly basis. It's a shame he was off walking by himself, and a shame the cops didn't find him stumbling first. I can understand a freshman getting turned around/lost in that section of campus, happens all the time.

People will write it off as the kid's nature. And then they'll band together against the fraternity. I blame the university. I've never seen a 15-foot open recess before- why was it left that way in the midst of construction? And why was he alone?

Meh. You just know that this is going to result in a new policy or rule at Penn State.

It's already a dry campus; Actually because a longtime member here at AT was killed by an intoxicated frat boy driver

If he was drunk the frat is in deep, deep shit.

The first sentence almost makes logical sense to blame on the university. The second... PSU is now supposed to escort everyone?

PSU alum here... I'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often honestly. The PSU frats were totally out of control when I was a student there not too long ago.

865 - WALK
not that anyone uses it... but it is required to be posted throughout all fraternity houses

That's for little girls. God I would have been thrashed by friends if I used that to go from Fraternity Row to West Halls. I was always the designated walker anyway (while I drink socially, I do not have more than 2 in a sitting). Many a drunk friend used me as support as we stumbled back to the dorms.

Strangely enough, I have never been to a bar at State College, after I turned 21 and graduated, the only time I am up there is for meetings and whatnot, never my own time.

Hmm. I've made that same journey black out drunk before. Luckily I usually found myself back in my dorm room. There was once or twice I woke up on a couch in the lobby of the IST building.

I'm still wondering why society condones heavy underage drinking as long as it occurs on a university campus.

lol since when does society condone it? I don't understand why society has made it "underage' drinking in the first place.

last time I checked, people need to be 21 to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. the vast majority of college students are under 21. when kids younger than 21 are caught drinking on a college campus, they're given a slap on the wrist by campus security and sent on their way.

my take is either have a law and enforce it or get rid of the law. either it's illegal for someone under 21 to drink or it isn't. the double standard is what gets me.

I just found out that he graduated with my cousin last year. 🙁 The local paper is saying he fell and whacked his head. Toxicology report is pending.
