Depends on what I'm doing. In school, I use a pencil probably 90% of the time, but at home, it's a good quality ball-point pen.

Keyboard.
If I'm writing something by hand, I don't care, because it's usually just a quick note about something.

Pen. Pencils have to be resharpened time and time again, while pens keep going and going ;)

I prefer my 0.7mm ballpoint pens :)

A decent mechanical pencil, preferrably .5mm. Not one of those 10 pack for $1.00 cheap plastic ones, one for a couple bucks is ok.

For those in school, mechanical pencils right?

Engineering HW is best done with pencil =) Try pen and what happens is the paper becomes a scribble page.

I feel that my roommate's notes that are written in pencil are 10x as neat as mine that are color coded in pen. Bleh, but then I use ugly lined paper. That might be why also.

Using a pentax $12 mechanical pencil. I cant use pens because the need to erase, unless I'm signing something.

Pencil. The feel of graphite on paper is just so much better.
