If it is legal for the president to transparently lie about a fake emergency to remove Congress’s role of controlling spending then that’s the end of Congress’s control on spending. If conservatives want to do that over piddling funding for a useless wall that’s their business but they will come to regret it.

It will be interesting to see conservatives falling over themselves in a few years to pretend they never supported Trump. I hope the rest of us make them remember.

Remember Republicans taking the power grab when Harry Reid changed the Senate rules to a majority vote for judges? He did that because Republicans were sitting on Obamas nominees. Mitch took it, extended it to SCOTUS and stole one of Obama's picks.

If the courts sanction Trump's fake NE then yes I want the Dems to go whole hog when they get into office.

True. We also need to remember this, and the Republican support for it all. The political landscape has changed forever in our nation. We now know that the "impossible" becomes reality. Perhaps there is some benefit in realizing that collectively were atrociously naive to think as we did about there being a solid foundation when we were looking at a long corroded structure occasionally patched and painted, like an original vintage car held together with Bondo.

No one, not even our "own" can be trusted without vigilant examination and merciless disclosure. We might survive this with only scars, but the makings of something far worse were given credibility by people like Spidey.

The drive to make our nation the antithesis of the original dream is strong.
 
Why does Trump think this is necessary to deliver a popular campaign promise? It's still not delivering on the promise. He repeatedly said: "Mexico will pay for it." This action is directly contradicting that promise while pretending to deliver on a promise.

Why do you think who pays for it matters to the inbred mentally deficient sad sacks of shit that still support him? They'll see a picture of the wall being build and yell "MAGA, suck it libs", that's all that matters to them, and him.

You are choosing the wrong perspective perhaps. This is more Freudian than anything. We have a malicious ego, a rabid id and a microscopic superego.

All things in the universe which is Trump is driven by this toxic combination. He doesn't care about the wall. He doesn't care about drugs. Humanitarian problems are incomprehensible to him. That does not mean he is immune from the effects as they reflect the chameleon nature of the defense. He enjoys a symbiosis with those who protect him while he feeds on their natures. The song "December" defines what Trump must have

Don't throw away your basic needs
Ambiance and vanity.

The wall is necessary for his vanity and that is it.

I don't. The Constitution cannot be defended by defying the Constitution. That doesn't really apply to the rules of the Senate, however, or to the law dictating the number of members to the SCOTUS.

It also needs to be remembered that there is only one radical party in this country & it's not the Democrats. The GOP has been charging to the far right of the political spectrum for 40 years, compromised more & more along the way by the money of the right wing mega rich. The richer they get, the more they can own the GOP and turn the govt to serve their purposes alone.
 
The best thing about this "border crisis" is, Trump actually has the gall or stupidity says he didn't need to do it. Which means it is NOT an emergency. And then goes on vacation again. The National Emergency Situation Room will be set up at Mar-A-Lago at an unspecified Par 3 hole. This is a real serious emergency. Divots must be repaired and mulligans severely limited.

“I want to do it faster. I could do the wall over a longer period of time. I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster…. I just want to get it done faster, that’s all.”

Trump effectively admitted that he sees this as a matter of convenience: the American policymaking process would take time, and he’d “rather do it much faster.”

There is no emergency. This is an unconstitutional power grab.

If a decades long, ongoing and declining problem constitutes an ‘emergency’ then anything a president wants qualifies as an emergency.

The nice thing about this is that the next president will be able to take appropriated money away from ICE and such and spend it on whatever they want.

Now we have a country where the President can control government spending however he wants, even if Congress votes against it, just by using the word 'emergency.'

No joke, if you think this is a genuine national emergency you should be FURIOUS at Trump for his gross incompetence. Can you imagine a president knowing something was an emergency and not even asking for one dollar to combat it?

This is what needs to be repeated over and over again. This wasn’t a big deal to him except as a talking point to keep the rubes engaged at his rallies until media personalities called him out. The emergency is his fragile ego was damaged.
