Great. As if Pelosi's agenda and energy policy wasn't bad enough there's more to be concerned about. An ardent envirowacko is now the head of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Here comes cap and trade!

Now we know that you can't have your house at 72 degrees and drive around in those SUVs citizens. Here, we'll tell you and business that you're going to "go green" and by green I mean much more expensive.

http://www.latimes.com/news/na...08nov20,0,982049.story

"Washington -- A spokeswoman for Rep. Henry Waxman says he's been selected by a key leadership panel to replace veteran Chairman John Dingell as head of a crucial House committee with jurisdiction over energy and global warming.

Karen Lightfoot said that Waxman and Michigan Democrat Dingell will still square off Thursday in a vote of House rank-and-file Democrats. But based on a 25-22 vote in the leadership panel Wednesday, Waxman has to be considered the favorite to topple Dingell, the longest-serving House member.

Waxman, a Californian, would bring a more environmentally friendly agenda to the committee as it considers global warming, energy and other issues such as health matters. Dingell is a longtime ally of Detroit's auto industry, and he and Waxman have battled in the past over clean air laws."

Environmental protection is one area where the GOP severely lacks. I mean what is more "conservative" than wanting to keep the earth in pristine shape so our children can enjoy it.

Sadly both parties have fucked up notions, making it more pro-business versus anti-humanity.

Good. One of the basic roles of government is to regulate external costs that are a byproduct of a free market, and the GOP completely fails in this regard. They can talk tough about increasing the military (another basic role: defense) and being tough on crime (basic role: justice) but being weak on the environment is just as bad as wanting to have a weak national defense and to have lenient sentences for violent criminals. Both of these, as well as environmental deregulation, are cases of government not doing its job.

What has Waxman done that's so radical, or is that just an automatic response for you guys?

I suppose we can start with his wrecking ball plan to cut greenhouse gases to 20% of current emissions by 2050, or his CAFE plan which is currently destroying the Big 3, or the fact that he opposes just about every viable energy technology.

So what? All those will impact the poor/working class (read: Democratic base) the most. I don't care if the Big 3 are destroyed. Raising CAFE standards will mean that less poor/working class will be able to afford cars, making more room on the roads. The affluent will make a mint from subsidies of wishful-thinking industries like solar and pay a token amount more on their utility bills, while displaced UAW members will be shiver in the cold. Where's the downside?

So radical that it has been ratified by almost every nation on this planet except the United States.

Every socialist/communist nation, yes.

This is America dammit! We do NOT punish success like that. It's wrong. Well at least we're not supposed to with our freedom. But our freedom is being quickly eradicated by a democrat house/senate.

Anti-capitalism is what he has done that is so radical.

You guys may love to call me a right winger but every political test I've ever taken puts me square in the "capitalist" arena. I guess the pundits were right - capitalism doesn't last long as they change to socialism, then to populace complacency. I weep for my country, it really is sad what is happening.

Pure capitalism is an evil ideology that is designed for the single purpose of making very few people rich and exploiting the hell out of the poor. Why do you think we have a third world income inequality in the US?

Just you wait, just you watch. This is only the start of the end for America. You wanted this, now you got it.

Why this doesn't scare the crap out of folks is beyond me. But then again this board cheers for the destruction of America and you can see by the responses the ill informed people want it. So be it.
