Hi! I have PC with this motherboard home. It has I7 920 CPU but i want to update bios but i can´t find any bios on the internet. I want to use Xeon E5640. Can i use this CPU in this motherboard or i need better?
 
I tried it but it doesn´t work only with I7 920. I found some second hand motherboards Asus p6t and Asus Rampage II Extreme for good price. P6t with 4gigs of ram. Which one is better?
 
Rampage II Extreme should be the better board, I would think, though neither one of them officially support Xeons in their CPU support list. That might not mean anything though.
 
It's because the Xeon has 2 QPI links. The HP board won't recognize it. Either of the other 2 after market boards should work fine with the Xeon.
 
Ah okay, that clears up that question then. No amount of BIOS updates will fix that problem for the HP board.
