Peeps want me to change their pc case...how much to charge?

Its the same amount of labor as building an entirely new PC minus software testing. Charge the same amount per hour. It takes like 20 minutes at most to build a PC, so you wont get too much...

20$ if it is a straighforward piece of cake (10 minute job)

50$ if the customer wants you to test it to make sure it works.

Not less than $50. This is worse than just building a whole new machine. You have to disassemble an old, dust filled box, prepare the new case, install all the hardware properly. There's also always a chance something could be about to poop the bed and decide to do it right then.

If its a dell or something, the rate shoots up to $12,000.

HA,. 20 minutes at most to build a pc.

How funny. It takes that long just to route the cables and tie them off neatly where they wont interfere with airflow.

It takes 10 minutes just to mount the heatsink bracket to the board, put thermal goop on the processor and mount the heatsink.

Building a computer is typically a 1-2 hour job if you do it correctly and want it to look professional. Add another couple hours for OS installation, patching, customization, etc.

I've assembled 15-20 of them and its not something you want to rush through.

I usually charge $15/hr for any service work. Sometimes I adjust the amount for people that I know can't really afford it.

I charge 20 but I abide to the same concept.

I've seen rushed through jobs, since the guy before me was a big fan of them...and they are terrible. 1 screw holding a hard drive in? Duct tape to hold a fan on? Bare fans wires that you spliced yourself...that short out on the side of the case? Oh its all so fun.

It takes me longer, but I go in and do it right the first time. Zip tie cables up so they don't get sucked into the CPU fan, at LEAST 3 screws to a drive, properly secured fans, use adaptors instead of duct tape. That way I don't have some one calling me every 10 seconds "My computer is whirring" or "My floppy drive is gone".

see sig.

Depends on the area. I charge $50 an hour the first time I do work for someone; then $75 every other time. That lets them know that they are getting what they are paying for.

$50

Do the job properly and not ass it up like the guy who saw so meone put one dam screw on the HD! And duct tape!

$100. Any less and it's not worth my time. If they can find somebody else to do it cheaper all the better!

Go for $40. A good value for your skills, and easy to pay (two 20s) for them. That or one twenty and food or a case of
