Peeps want me to change their pc case...how much to charge?

As far as labor, how much should I charge to move all the PC parts from one case to the new one?

This person isn't related to me or a friend really, just someone that my brother works with that asks me for PC help all the time. So I'm not going to do this for free, but I want to be fair.

peace

I usually charge $15/hr for any service work. Sometimes I adjust the amount for people that I know can't really afford it.

Agreed. You start and say...200. See what he offers, then lower your offer to 199. 🙂

BS. Maybe, $15-20 to take the case cover off. Case swaps are not always so smooth. Every now and then, one comes along where the AGP card doesn't seat quite right and there is trouble with the PC booting. If one is going to take something as low as $20 to do the case swap, it might be best to politely say "no thank you" because once you've done the work, you're pretty much a permanent tech support person for that PC.

Heck yeah I wouldn't go near it for less than 50. Let them find someone else that knows what they are doing that will do it for less than that. Although the tequila sounds good. What kind of relationship you have with them matters too. And oh yeah are they hot 😛

If it's a simple case swap, there will be no problems with boot up issues. And if an AGP card doesn't seat right, then it's the case, not your fault. And no matter how much you charge them, if they want to pay it, you WILL become their permanent tech support person.

If it's a Dell to regular ATX case, be prepared to charge extra. Had to change for a friend when I was first starting out. Good god, I charged him $20 flat, and it was a 5 hour job!

Depends how much that person knows about computers.

If very little then he wouldn't notice a bit less memory, smaller hard drive, or lower graphics card instead of what he had

$50/hr is my normal rate, $30 for friends/family. There's more to it than just moving the hardware. The BIOS also needs to be configured/flashed, OS tested, etc
