I vote for the pistol w/ frangibles, after looking into ballistics tests with a 12 gauge. If you're looking to shoot people with a shotgun, 00 buck and slugs are what most people use, and both go through drywall a lot better than most people think. Frangible rounds break up on impact. Plus you can stash a pistol anywhere in the house, concealed. Harder to do with a shotgun.

Though really, the best way to go about it is to take her to the range, let her shoot a shotgun and a couple handguns including at least one revolver (most ranges rent out pistols for a nominal fee), and then let her decide which she is more comfortable with.

He's probably relatively harmless, a peeping tom isn't on the same level as a serial rapist. Hell, given the opportunity who WOULDN'T watch a hot girl through her window?

Be cautious, be prepared to defend yourself in the unlikely event it becomes necessary. That's about all anybody can do with any threat.

If I were in the neighborhood I'd be tempted to get some guys I knew & trusted to patrol the area. Couple guys a night wandering around & you might even catch him in the act.

I am here until Sunday night around 5pm then I have to drive back to Athens for school, firearms are a possibility but niether of us have enough money to purchase one. She hasnt told her father yet, but I am sure the when she calls him on Monday (he has been out of town) some chit is gonna go down. I think she needs to tell the apartment manager that she wants to be moved to a different building or higher level

First off, I'm entirely against a firearm in this incident. It's far more likely to be used improperly under the circumstances than anything else. Some type of non-lethal, incapacitating item will more than suffice. I am leaning toward pepper spray of some kind and every time she enters or leaves the area, she should have it at the ready. It's far less likely to cause the type of destruction that a weapon of any other kind would if employed against the wrong target. Plus, you've all but said that she's afraid of them and you don't seem to have a lot of experience with them, much less acquiring and firing on a moving target at night and considering your backdrop (ie.-the person in their living room in the adjacent building) and the other factors that come with years of experience with a handgun.

Second, lighting is key. Guys like this love hiding in the shadows to conduct their business. Hell, buy her a 10,000 candle power spotlight to use to check the area at night if she's that bothered by it, which she certainly should be somewhat concerned about it. A thorough analysis of the lighting situation in the complex and especially in her immediate areas should be conducted. Any lights you notice that are not functional or burnt out should be reported immediately to the grounds keepers for replacement.

Third, don't hesitate to call the police and request increased patrols in the area if this hasn't been done already. At those times of night, most cops are happy to be able to turn on the spot lamps and alley lights on their car or get out and question people in the area who shouldn't be there. Believe it or not, a large number of criminals are caught doing seemingly harmless things like this.

Finally, train her to be fully aware of her surroundings. I teach my wife everything I can to defend herself. I'm not talking years of martial arts training either. Things like turning on her high beams coming into the parking lot and giving a good visual scan of the entire area before pulling in. Keeping her door locked until she's ready to get out of the car. Practice making use of the Panic feature on her keyless entry remote if it's equipped with it. Approaching corners by walking out and around them to give you reaction time should someone be waiting to ambush you. All of these things any many more can prove effective if simply practiced and thought about and none of them will really make her seem "paranoid" as many women often end up feeling doing things like this. It's not like you're teaching her to combat roll around the apartment complex or camo up her face before going out. 😀

I hope these things give you something to think about, discuss and act upon for this incident.

PS-we worked for the better part of 3 weeks two summers ago to catch a peeping tom and never did. Fortunately, nothing ever came of it in the way of violent crime or anything, but it was very annoying to always be one step behind the guy.

I like this idea, and the idea of a BAT, AND Peper Spray.

If there is nothing for the person to peep at, they will move to the next apartment.

One thing i think you said that was weird was that its a Gated Community, dont they usually have security? Or a fence? or am i missing the point of living in a gated community?

It is gated in the fact that there are gates that cars have to go through and a fence in the front, the reason he has chosen this particular building is quite obvious. Her building is in the very back of the complex and half of the apartments face the woods. Her "front" door is in the breezway, with all the windows to the bedroom,living room facing the woods her porch is in the back with another door.

It is gated in the fact that there are gates that cars have to go through and a fence in the front, the reason he has chosen this particular building is quite obvious. It is more isolated than the other buildings. Her building is in the very back of the complex and half of the apartments face the woods. Legally? No, probably not. She can request it and if she's really that afraid, they'd be bungholes for not accomodating her request, provided they have space available, etc. Remember, as yet, there's been no crime committed to warrant such action. Unless there's a police report and she can show that she was a direct target (ie.- visible tampering at her window, etc.) and it was reported and filed with the Police Department, they really don't have to accomodate her on legal grounds because there are none.

That's BS, I'd get some ROTC guys and form up a posse. Get a SUV or minivan type vehicle and camp out in it while someone keeps watch. I wouldn't keep a gun on hand, because a misuse accident could happen and if the police find you all in a van with a gun it will look bad. Just get some aluminum baseball bats. When you see the guy get him. "Citizen's arrest"


He obviously enters through the woods. If your really hardcore, camp out in the woods in all black and maintain silence and no light all night. Agree on a plan, codewords, and hand signals ahead of time. When you hear or see him, you guys can encircle him.

The police have been notified but I have yet to see one at the complex, granted for the 2 days that I have been here I have not been awake at that time to see if the cops where indeed patroling the area.

Pepper spray only has around a 75% effectiveness they dont work a lot of people. Remember that.

As a starter, maybe she can make sure all the blinds and curtains are closed at nights. And leave a picture of goatse on the windowsill before she goes to sleep. I'm sure that'll turn him off. :-D
