Peeping Tom

My girlfriend just got this letter from her apartment complex, needless to say I am pretty worried as she lives alone and goes to school 3 hours away from me.

This letter is to notify you of 2 incidents we have had on the property recently. A couple of weeks ago, a tenant in Building "K" looked out her living room blind at 5:45 AM and saw a man looking in her bedroom window (a peeping Tom). Yesterday around 8:30AM, someone knocked on the door of another tenant, covered up the peep hole and did not answer when she asked who was there.

Both of these incidents happened in the same building that she lives in

******UPDATE********

Well an hour ago, her upstairs neighbor knocked on the door and asked her if the complex had talked to her at all. Come to find out a couple of days ago her neighbor was on her way to work and saw a man outside my g/f's apartment at 5:45 am peeking into her window. She said it looked like he was urinating....(I am assuming he was jerking off). She didnt call the cops b/c she didnt know if my g/f had a boyfriend or husband. The thing that really pisses me off is that the apartment complex didnt even bother to notify my g/f that this had occured at her room. Any cops here have experience with this sort of thing.

Man, that's not good. Just have neighbors look out for each other as they exit/enter the complex somehow, just incase he is a sicko.

Buy her a taser gun and have her properly trained on it's use.

Forget the Taser, a 12 gauge is far more effective.

Tasers are fun toys, but if you're serious about defending yourself in your home a shotgun is the way to go.

It is mixed, it is in a college town. But it also has alot of military folks as an AirForce base is nearby. It is a gated community with no previous problems.

Yeah I am thinking about taking her to a gun range and firing off a few rounds.......guns scare the hell out of her though.

LOL, no no !!! It's something she can hide on her person, so that they can nail the s.o.b., send him to jail and give bubba in cell #3 a new plaything !

Extra-cap mag and the optimal choice of "apartment building" ammunition. If I were a woman, I'd marry you. :D

scary situation for her. By the times of the incidents the pervs a morning wood type of guy. Tell her to be on the lookout and espeically cautious in the mornings. If she's got some morning classes she should have a guy friend or a bunch of girls come and pick her up. Other than that and some mace to carry around maybe she can stay at a friends place until the perv gets caught.

What kind of demented person gets off on straing through peoples windows..........my concern is that it is a rapist casing the building.

Dont forget the select fire, 1200 rounds per minute cyclic rate ;)

Now if only they made it chambered in 40S&W or 45ACP. Though that would be an absolute b*tch to try and keep on target, it'd be a great supressive fire weapon. And fun as hell.

I'd be seriously concerned too. Hopefully they can catch the guy, but he might live there and now be scared off. You really never know. I read a book awhile back on a guy that was a rapist, and started dating a lady after he raped her. She never knew that *he* was the rapist. She thought he was some guy that wanted to protect her from it ever happening again. Not only that, but he used their relationship as a cover to rape other ladies in the apartment complex and general location. This wasn't some homeless guy either. He owned a lot of car wash/auto body places and was quite successful. I believe this happened in Dallas in the mid 90's. I would certainly look into some type of firearm for her, and make SURE that she doesn't answer the door for anyone even if they appear to be harmless. If she doesn't know them or even if she does and it feels funny tell them to come back later. How is the lighting at night out there? What abour parking?

We are talking in home defense. You've gotta save the 150mm artillery for trespassers.

Up until today she has been parking in the back, her apartment faces the woods. I have told her that she should no longer park there and park in the front parking lot. The lighting is good, the corridor has lights as well as the stair cases..but she lives on the ground floor with the door and windows facing the woods. I told her she should also leave the back porch light on........but I am not sure if this is good or bad.....should she leave that light on?

But do you go up to the windows of their house, go out of your way just to look at them? I'm not talking about the ones sunbathing in bikinis or the ones wearing mini skirts walking down the street.

SethK28,
Tell her to make sure her windows and doors are always locked. A piece of wood on the sliding part of a window can make it almost impossible for a perv to slide the window open save for breaking it. Then if he breaks a window there's plenty of time for her to react. Give her a baseball bat she can keep within easy reach. What are the property managers doing about this? If enough tenants complain about it they might higher a temporary security gaurd to walk around at night.

I think she should. Reduce shadows that the jerk is hiding in.

Time for you to either start sleeping on her couch (or her bed, if your relationship is that far along) or start walking her to her door every night. Much better safe than sorry, at least until they catch the freak.

Definitely look into something she can use to defend herself.

What state does she live in? Is it a shall, may, or no issue CCW state? (http://www.packing.org/). Keep in mind that no license is needed for concealed carry in your home, though I stand by my original suggestion of a shotgun for home defense. A long gun is much easier to aim under stress, carries 4x the muzzle energy of common handgun loads, has a low risk of over-penetration, & is flat out intimidating as hell. Shotguns are also dirt cheap.

She needs to start using the obvious things now, and find a way to give herself an advantage. Guns are great that way, suddenly a 5' woman who was prey is now the hunter.

You should be spending at least the next couple weeks at her apartment, or she should stay with you. Call 911 if you see the guy.

She lives 3 hours from him, it's probably not possible.

He's probably relatively harmless, a peeping tom isn't on the same level as a serial rapist. Hell, given the opportunity who WOULDN'T watch a hot girl through her window?

Be cautious, be prepared to defend yourself in the unlikely event it becomes necessary. That's about all anybody can do with any threat.

If I were in the neighborhood I'd be tempted to get some guys I knew & trusted to patrol the area. Couple guys a night wandering around & you might even catch him in the act.
