Pedometer apps

From what I understand pedometers are not very accurate for measuring distance traveled because they just count steps. I'm wondering about the pedometer apps for smart phones. Do they use the GPS to get an accurate distance? I've been doing a lot of walking/running lately and I'd really like to know how much distance I'm covering each day.

I use Strava for biking, and so far it's been great. I think it also works for walking/running. I found it pretty accurate.

Mapping software might be better. My pace is pretty close to 3', and I'm accurate to around 5' per 1000'. Dunno about running. Fuck running :^D

I use cyclemeter (which has a pedometer section) and it's great. You can calculate via GPS or steps. It measures your step count vs GPS to get an average an calculates from there. I then link it to Strava.

RunKeeper does a combination of both I believe. I know I use it for distance and then the built in S Health app for steps.

the english language decided to go on holiday when this word was put in the dictionary.

PODOmeter = measures how much you like walking

PEDOmeter = measures how much you like little girls.

That's because the kiddie fiddler one should be spelt paedophile.

You want to also carry a sword that you can pair it with. The sword will turn blue. Make sure you set to pedophile since the default is actually orc.

my fitbit works pretty well, but i have also used the strava and nike apps which also work well. smartphone apps work really well as long as your GPS signal is good. i used to use endomondo but I had a ton of trouble with it recording the route properly.

if you think you will like looking at a fairly accurate map of where you walked/ran, go with a smartphone app. plus, with smart phone apps, you can listen to music, and if you are into it, the nike app lets you add friends and see who is leading the pack with the most miles, etc. idk if the strava one does, as i didnt use it that long.

if you just want to know how far you walked/how many steps you took, go with a fitbit, or other comparable wearable. i can tell you though that my fitbit would record the same route very differently in terms of distance. i walk the same route in the mornings, and it would vary up to 4/10s of a mile from day to day. that's kind of a huge margin of error imo. and that was for a fitbit force, which was not a cheap version.

"Ped" is from the Latin. "Pod" is from the Greek. For some reason, we use the Latin particle to mean walking and the Greek particle to mean the structure of the body part itself.

Othopedists study walking. Podiatrists study feet.

Pedestrians walk, and when you stop them from walking, you impede their progress.

It gets tricky when you get into animal names - Quadrupeds, Centipedes, and Millipedes are defined by their number of feet, true, but also the number of feet they use for walking, whereas arthropods, gastropods, and the like are defined by their feet, but in the structure of the foot itself, not in how they use it to get around.

Actually, a podometer might measure the size or quality of your foot rather than their number.

Even I get confused by "podium" and "pedestal," however.
