Pedestal for front load washer is crazy expensive.

I just bought a Samsung washer dryer combo at Lowes. They want $200 each for the pedestal they sit on . I thought for sure I could find something cheper on ebay or an after market competitor. Nothing out there. Samsung and all the other manufactures have the market locked up. Has anyone found an alternative to these overpriced pieces of plastic?
 
Buy a few pieces of wood and build one. Also helpful is to buy a bag of cement and pour it in the wood to make a very sturdy platform.
 
i built mine out of 2x6's and plywood. stapled some carpeting to the finished product for sound deadoning and to reduce vibration, not to mention for looks.

forgot to mention, i built the platform bigger so both washer and dryer sit on it for more stability.
 
I got an Amana front-loading washer. I refuse to pay $200 for $5 worth of stamped steel and $2 worth of paint, so I left it on the floor. I'm 6'5" tall, and have no problem at all loading or unloading it.
 
yes they are. the only reason we got the pedestals was in a combo deal from Costco that included delivery, setup , pedestals and washer/dryer combo in one price
 
should have done some wheeling and dealing for the pedestals prior to purchasing...I.e. threatening to go to another store and get a price match.
 
If you have problems bending over why didn't you get a top loading washer and dryer? Did you fall for all that front-loader hype?

If you don't want to buy th pedestals consider stacking the dryer on top of the washer ... but that leaves you the problem of having to bend over to use the washer.

It could be worse ... you could be down at the local creek beating your clothes over rocks.
 
dont buy. waste of $400! Make your own. I built my own out of OSB. Spent $5 on the 3/4" OSB sheet, $5 on oil paint (to seal all moisture out, so that it doesnt damage the wood), and couple bucks on few screws.

Make your own so you can custom build it to your height preference. Just make sure you build enough internal bracing so it can handle the weight
