Greatest hits = most popular songs

Greatest hits != Artist's favorite cuts
And many times, the artist has no choice on what appears on compilations. Major record labels today =

The best greatest hits and best of CD's are usually the European versions.

Peal Jam is probably NOT one of those bands. I'm sure they have a lot of control over what they do.
Considering PJ have been very unhappy with Sony (imagine that) for awhile and it was announced they left Epic/Sony in May '03, and the CD was just released, do you think they still had much control over it (I dont know)? And the album was either just to fulfil their album # contract with Sony so they could leave, and/or Sony's last attempt to get some more cash from the name while they still could.

Pearl Jam's greatest hits CD is called 'Ten'

:p

You are correct, sir.

Among all of their albums, I would say "Ten" is probably average. Yield, VS, and Vitalogy are way better. Only reason people say "Ten" is the best is because that's where all the radio hits were from. And notice how their greatest hits had to be spread over 2 CDs and they're STILL missing too many great songs like Blood, LBC, Brain of J, All Those Yesterdays, etc. Greatest band of the 90's.

I wouldn't say that it?s because of all the radio hits because that is pretty much untrue. As far as I remember there are only 2 radio hits on that album, Jeremy and Even Flow. Most of the other radio hits came later in the bands career, a lot of them from the three albums you listed... The first album is every ones favorite because it has the flow that none of the other albums do... I like every single song on "Ten" and listen to it from beginning to end with the exception of Jeremy because that song was WAY overplayed back in the day... The other CDs have several tracks that just don't have a good sound or I personally do not like...

Of course it's always going to be a case of personal preference...

Over where I live, I have yet to hear anything past "Ten" on the local radio stations here. They play Black, Evenflow, Alive, and Jeremy but that's it (exluding Last Kiss of course). Heck they don't even play Daughter or Rearviewmirror.

hmm thats odd /checks profile.... ahhhh Texas that explains it enough for me...

round here Black and Alive didn't even get played until LONG after Ten was released...

Sad thing is if I went around here and asked people if they've ever heard of Black, they'd say, "yeah it's that song that the lead singer from Staind sings".
he didn't even cover it right because he's a dumbass

"and now my bitter hands chafe on broken glass"

way to go, aaron.
