It's a shame that so many Americans today think that anything the ultra-authoritarian, fascist, and communist sympathizer FDR was right.

At least the Japanese and Germans admit and apologize for whatever wrong they may have done, even though it wasn't on the scale that the Allied powers did wrong.

According to Franklin Roosevelt's own classical liberal wife who didn't really even like the classic tyrant... he not only knew, but he was relieved when the incident happened 71 years ago to this very day.

Why can the Japanese (and Germans) admit that their former leaders were wrong but most Americans can't that FDR was wrong?

The great majority of scholars have rejected the conspiracy thesis that Roosevelt, or any other high government officials, knew in advance about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The Japanese had done a very good job in keeping their secrets. All senior American officials were aware that war was imminent, but none expected an attack on Pearl Harbor.

A420 you're crazy.

And what do you think the Allies* did during the war that was worse than the Japanese and Germans killing some ~20 million civilians

*Unless you are lumping Stalin in here but I hardly think the Western countries should apologize for his crimes

I was under the impression a quality mental health facility would try to limit access to the internet so their patients don't get all riled up.

Sorry; if he posts something YOU happen to agree with, it doesn't mean he's right.

It means you are just as crazy.

And no, he doesn't "know what he is talking about".

He simply paraphrases/regurgitates what he reads on internet blogs.

Try to tell people their government has started countless wars by lying and manipulating people and most of them just throw rotten tomatoes at you.

The 911 truth stuff doesn't seem so out there after you find out the government has actively planned to attack it's own installations and blame others in order to goto war with them.

Let's analyze this from a cold, objective perspective.

1) Roosevelt knew the Japanese will attack.
2) He steered the U.S. towards entering WWII.
3) As a result, WWII was won by the Allies, while Japan and Germany got beaten to the pulp.
4) As a direct consequence of the war, while Europe was in ruins, the U.S. rose to global dominance, keeping the Soviet Union in check.

So, I ask you, where's the problem?

As Americans, both the OP and those who side with him to criticize FDR are hypocritically dissing the very man who's responsible (albeit indirectly) for their cushy lives, in a nation which has seen half a century of unsurpassed growth and prosperity, enjoying global hegemony and exporting American culture across the world.

Where's that Wonka meme?
"Oh, you live in a country made great by winning WWII? Tell me again how miserable FDR was!"

He may have been relieved due to knowing our economic power was now going to be tossed into the war on the side of the allies. He wanted us to get involved earlier to stop Nazi and Japanese aggression. But I dont think he knew they were going to hit Pearl Harbor. If he did, I think he would sail the fleet out and let them bomb storage yards and dry docks. It would had accomplished the same thing while preserving our fighting capability in the Pacific.

71 years from now, someone will come out with "proof" that Bush knew about Al-Qaeda... etc. etc.

What else is communism but national tyranny? Got to seize power to redistribute.

It's just a flavor of fascism.

You do realize that calling someone a fascist and communist sympathizer is basically like calling someone a black panther an KKK sympathizer?

First of all, I'm glad that Incorruptible, Airdata, and a few others support civilization through liberty. Thanks to them for loving truth:)

The result of Churchill's war policies was what created the cold war and the deaths of 4 million Germans and Hungarians after WWII ended and then being chased out of their homes, their property blown to Stalin's Kingdom. Churchill enabled Stalin as did FDR.

Churchill was much worse than the Emperor and Hitler combined he even had a special execution policy for the French in Africa who wouldn't join his military. Churchill had lousy policies that very few even liked and the ones that were popular were just attempts to fix his previous mistakes... Churchill didn't value civilization and he let all the Jews die when he could've let them into Britain. However, he believed in Eugenics (even though it was stupid, especially when done through force) at the time and he cared more about murdering Germans so he didn't let them in. The Emperor was a fairly civil man considering his country was occupied and how he didn't want revenge. Hitler valued civilization and even though I don't like his policies, his policies were popular among the majority of Germans and much of Europe once he became dictator.

I suggest reading Ralph Raico on the revisionism, he's one of the best researchers and one of the best revisionists.

Gotta love how you call him a fascist AND a commie!
I said he was a communist sympathizer yet he actually governed as a fascist. He wasn't that bright. Neither am I.
i truly believe you hate America more than any other member of this board. hell even TheGreenBean didn't trash the US like you do.
No I don't hate America, I hate FDR's govt and the shit he did to America. Quite the contrary, I love America and I think that if more people here supported the golden rule, America would be happier, more popular, and truer to the Republicanism Jefferson envisioned. I think sending America to war is sick because we were never threatened until our govt made a threat for us. FDR did nothing good for America that lasted... he may have helped people with high time preference who lived at the time at the expense of the people, but he didn't do any good. He supported Prohibition until he realized (or was told) it could give the govt revenue.
FDR is not responsible for anyone's cushy life at all. LBJ may have been for some if you want to put it as "cushy", but FDR was definitely not.

To think even for a moment that FDR knew of the planned attack on Pearl Harbor shows an appalling lack of intellligence and common sense.

The actual mechanical details alone make it impossible.

You would have to believe that a large number of American Army and Navy officers who would also have to have known committed treason.

The very idea that an enemies armed forces which were known to be planning an attack might attack a surprising target is about as common as a cold. In the end that's all Pearl Harbor was. An attack at a place the enemy did not expect. You know, like Normandy or the Torch landings.

There's a bit of a difference between reporting as true something you have good reason to believe is false, and allowing or causing the deaths of thousands of Americans. To believe that 9/11 or Pearl Harbor were allowed to occur by the government is just crazy.
