i'm interesting in getting a pda, but i am not quite ready to break the bank on the latest and greatest. in other words, i am cheap and looking for the "best bang for the buck" model. i'm a complete and utter n00b when it comes to pda's, and would like a scoot in the right direction. i would like something with bluetooth and wifi. what pda do you guys recommend? price-wise... i am trying to get rid of my 17" planar px171m lcd to pay for the pda... so i guess i am looking to spend somewhere in the $200-$250 range.

:)

I don't think it's possible to get a PDA with bluetooth *and* wifi in the $200-$250 price range unless it's used.... in which case there's the Tungsten C if you want something Palm-based.

As for a pocket pc-based unit, check out the Dell Axim X30, Axim X50, or the HP iPAQ rx3715. They should be within your price range through ebay.

What exactly are you planning to use your future PDA for?

The usage could well define the type of PDA recomendation.

I just bought a couple Dell Axim X50v's and they are great, but they run around $500 each or so (depending on deals and accessories you buy with it). I personally think they are worth the extra money.

i would like to use it as a gps primarily. i guess the organizer feature would be nice. i also hear ppl using their pda's to listen to music, watch movies, and load emulators on them. just seems like a good way to kill time :p

getting a used pda is not a problem for me. btw, what is the difference between a palm-based and a pocket pc-based pda? just the OS?

Pretty much. Most programs are not interchangable between the two. I prefer pocket pc for compatibilty. I would stay away from the zire 72 esp the one with the blue coating; it peels, and they dont do wifi. Pocket pc is more flexible imo, especially from users who already use Windows. The pocket pc today window beats lame palm icons anyday. But if youre looking for GPS, youre price is way too low. GPS isn't that cheap yet. Youre looking at at least 400 for everything you want, and that is probably used at that.

I agree with the above posts about waiting for Dell to run a deal and get an x30 or x50(v). I got my x50v a few weeks ago and it was only ~400 shipped. I know you could get a lesser model and stay within your price range.

i already have the gps stuff (for my laptop), so i just need to pick up pda. i'll probably lean towards a pocket pc, since i'm a windows user.
