A friend of mine just got a new job and I'd like to buy him a PDA. I'd like to spend around $150 or so. What would you buy?
Thanks for your suggestions.

For that amount the best you could shoot for would be a discontinued grayscale iPAQ.

Here....... directly from Sony which fit under your budget.
Yes..yes...I know it is refurbish. But where can you get the OS 4.0 for less than that?
Directly from Sony, I would think it is safe.

I got the Sony Clie S320 from Dell.com by combining a coupon with 20% off Periph. and Acess. discount or something like that--cost me $135 shipped. I'm sure if you keep your eyes open (and if you get the Dell emails) you could score a similar deal.

Clie is a solid PDA. Better than anything else I've seen/used in the price range. Who needs color and MP3-listening ability on a PDA? The S-320 has all the expandability and standard PDA functions a non-gizmo person could ask for.

I wouldn't get a palm, try to get a Pocket PC, possibly a monochrome Ipaq (ipaq 3135) or one of those older Jornada's.

the new sony t-series and many of the newer pocket windows PDA's don't have folding keyboards from targus/Think Outside yet, so if typing is a priority, you might want to stay away from them for now.

Very, very bad advice. I love my new Jornada, but I wouldn't wish an old one on anybody. The older hardware and OS on the PocketPCs are crap. It's another classic example of MS needing at least 3 tries to make something good.

For the $150 price point, a person is best served getting a PalmOS device.
