PDA Preference?

I'm leaning towards the Dell because I think I'd personally prefer Windows Mobile over Palm, but that's my opinion. I'd just like to know which one you prefer. Here are some general specs.

Dell Axim x30
Processor: Intel 312MHz
OS: Windows Mobile 2003 SE
ROM: 64MB
RAM: 64MB
Wireless: 802.11b, bluetooth
Price: $239.99 from Newegg

Sony Clie TJ37
Processor: 200 MHz
OS: Palm OS v5.2
ROM: 16MB
RAM: 32MB
Wireless: 802.11b
Price: $237 from Dell

It seems like you get more for your money with the Dell, but I'm concerned because of Dell's reputation. Plus, I already have a collapsable keyboard that I used with my SL10 that's compatible with the new Clie. But perhaps it's worth it to buy a new one for the Dell?

You're going about it the wrong way.

Which device you choose should depend on the OS (Palm or Windows)?

Personally I'd go for the Dell Axim X30 mid, excellent bang for your buck!

X30 is a great Pocket PC. I bought one for my wife to keep track of her business records, and we use it as a GPS, when we take trips. It works flawlessly.

The Dell's have a bad Quality Control for those units - make sure you buy them with extra warranty/service.

I personally have an X30 High, and I love it, despite having the screen die within a month. The processor speed really isn't that big of a deal - power consumption is.

I personally like the way the PocketPC OS works over Palm, and I also have a keyboard that works with the X30. Without the keyboard, I would use it far, far less.
