This is what really intrigues me: Will the real money be in targeting a specific market niche, or in a convergence device that is jack-of-all-trades master of none? I suspect there will be ample room for all the products, some consumers just can't have enough tech toys, and others want an all-in-one solution that meets their needs in a space saving, easy to use format.

I think convergence is likely only when there is a natural fit between groups of applications on similar devices. Mobile apps have some powerful incentives to settle on one or two devices, just for practicality's sake. Gaming will spread out between consoles, browsers, and mobile devices and continue to have specific characteristics on each. All the power apps will stay on laptops/desktops until some sort of cloud computing model emerges.

Meh. I love MMOs and RTS games, and have yet (gaming since 1990) to play one on a console I enjoyed. Greatly prefer FPS on PCs as well.

I also love 2D fighters, some sports games, JRPGs, games like Metal Gear, and games like the Lego movie titles. Almost always preferred on a console.

Strengths and weaknesses, and as a gamer, I care about the games, not the hardware...otherwise I'd be a hardwareer. o_O

A developer saying something like a PC is not good for gaming is just bitter at something.
