PCP&C Silencer made by Seasonic?

So I was checking out a review (awesome review  ) of the PCP&C Silencers at PC Perspective and also found a review of 3 Seasonics, 2 Super Silncers and 1 Tornado. The Super Silencers and the PCP&C look nearly identical. Dose Seasonic make the Silencers for PCP&C?

Interal shots.

I'd imagine that PSU's all use the same types of parts inside and there's only a few different ways to build them. Tried and true mechanical layouts are probably used by all the major makers, making them look very close to each other. Just as engines from the same year (or few year range) will look pretty much identical across a wide range of manufacturers. Especially ones that call out same/similar features (DOHC, EFI, etc.).

Car engines don't look at all that similar, unless they within the same family...

Idk, those PSU are pretty much identical down to every detail, they also have nearly indicial weights, within 100g/1oz.

I seem to remember hearing something along those lines in another forum, but the poster did not provide a link to back it up. Isn't there a way to look up who makes what somewhere? There has to be a database where you can find out about any companies products and who they manufactor for or sell their design to.

I thought PC Power and cooling never made their own psus. I thought i read somewhere they take fortron or some other well known brand, improve the design a lil bit, and rebadge it... I could be totally off though...

Most PCP&C PSUs are OEMd from Channel Well. I don't know whether CW and Seasonic are related or not, but I wouldn't be surprised. Hard to tell who makes what any more, but lots of times you can tell by looking up the UL file no. (Exxxxxx) at http://www.ul.com . It is also possible for a company like PCP&C to do a design and have it executed by the OEM, in which case the UL file no. might be issued to the distributor rather than the actual manufacturer.

There are a lot of PCP&C fanboys running around that would crucify you for such heresy.

If true, PCP&C has a nice thing going getting nearly double the price of an equivalent Seasonic.

So PC Power and Cooling and Seasonic are selling the same PSUs at vastly different prices...hmm guess that makes 2 companies to scratch off my PSU maker to buy from list. (Antec was first)

Though you're not the only one guilty of not reading the article in this thread, you certainly were the most "fanboyish" of the group so you get quoted. From the 2 articles linked above:

Seasonic Super Silencer 350 watt ATX: $79.99
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 350 ATX: $65.00

Seasonic Super Silencer 460 watt ATX: $109.99
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 460 ATX: $85.00

So what math exactly did you use to come up with the PCP&C "getting nearly double the price?" The math I learned says PCP&C is cheaper. This "Silencer" line is new and apparently intended to be their lowend. Their turbo-cool line is the highend overkill for the home user with a price to match PS line that they are known for.

Would you happen to have a link to the 460W Silencer? I can't find one for $85. 😱

Im quite sure you might be able to pick one up cheaper elsewhere
Thanks for making it simple. But you really haven't. I see no Silencer 460W for $85... Do you?

And channel well does not make thier high-end turbo cools. Try Zippy, at 1.5x the price.

The review above is 6 months old. They've apparently refreshed their entire line since then, as they no longer sell a 350W Silencer either. The 360W Silencer that replaced it is still $65, while the 470W Silencer that replaced the 460W version had $14 tacked on to the price. At $99 it is still cheaper than the Seasonic 460W which is $110.50 at Newegg and not nearly double the price. I thought PCP&C only sold direct, so what you see on their site is what you get.

PCP&C has marketed psu's manufactured by Zippy, Magtech, Fortron/Source, and maybe some others over the years... Their current line, or part of it, may be by Seasonic, dunno...

All very good stuff, but the best thing about PCP&C is their service, and their no-hassle warranty support, very important to tech support pros. If you call 'em before the close of business today, and need it yesterday, it'll be sitting on the dock at 10:00 tomorrow morning. They've also been known to cross-ship warranty replacements to corporate customers, maybe individuals, too. Not cheap, but that's not much of an issue when it's other people's money, anyway...
