PCMIA Missing On NO!

I just purchased a HP Pavilion dv9000t and it does not have a PCMIA slot. It does have a Express slot. I have a PCMIA wireless card which lets me connect to a Cingular Wireless internet from just about anywhere. Is there any kind of PCMIA converter which I can connect to USB or Express Slot?

No. No converter is available that I am aware of. And, to make matters worse, the Express slot cards are just beginning to emerge. Take a look at a wireless router that will accept your old PCMCIA card and then use the laptops Wi-Fi link. Anyway - in the EVDO area, Cingular is a loser. Time to switch.

Cingular isn't EV-DO, I believe they use EDGE, which is horrendous compared to EV-DO. I know that Verizon has EV-DO service, and I'd imagine Sprint does too, but that's only a guess.

You are quite right - I was thinking wireless broadband in general - being a Sprint EVDO user, I made a Freudian slip. 🙂

Anyway - the main point is that at this moment, I have only seen one Express card device released, and that is by Novatel - and it is EVDO. And you are right - EVDO stomps Cingular in speed and overall national access. It seems that laptop OEMs are a bit ahead of the device development curve with their Express slots. I will stick with my HP dv1000 until I can upgrade my wireless BB card to Express.
