PCMCIA (PC Card) Midi - Better solution?

I am trying to attach a laptop to a clavinova. The clavinova has midi input. What are my options? Do I have to invest in a card? I have only found one card (the EXP) that claims to have midi out. Any other suggestions?

That seems less portable than pcmcia though.

{edit} Yes, that is the Extigy. It looks like a big box just for midi output. Is there some kind of adapter to go from a headphone jack to midi? Or are headphones analog and midi is digital.....crap......

The format of the headphone jack and MIDI is totally different and are incompatible.

But does your laptop already have MIDI Out in the first place? Note that some audio chipsets use the joystick port for MIDI In/Out, so you just need to get one of those MIDI cables that have the 15-pin joystick port on one end and MIDI In and MIDI Out at the other end. Check your laptop to see if it indeed already has this functionality.

If not, then you will need additional hardware (either the Creative Extigy or some PCMCIA solution) for your MIDI needs.

IGNORE ALL OF THESE GUYS!

If all you need is MIDI input and output for an external keyboard then just get a TINY USB, Serial or Parallel interface available at any keyboard/music store. Something like this or this.

Should be only $50.

Well, it cost you twice as much and you can't use it on any desktop machines.... but at least you have something now.
I still would have gone serial/parallel/USB over PCMCIA.... less delicate and breakable, half the price, and more versatile.
My two bits only....
