PCMark04 fubar laptop scores

OK, I tested PCMark04 on both my 100GB Seagate Momentus 5400.2 and my 60GB Hitachi 7200rpm. The same laptop was used.

Aside from the difference in HD, there's a TREMENDOUS diff in CPU score. WTF? The exact same config, except for HD was used. Why the huge diff?

Is one loaded up more than the other? I've read that modern hard drives may make extensive use of unused space, often basically mirroring data until the drive is half full, which can speed up reads greatly. This may be malarkey, but it's an interesting idea. The concept is that while the platter is spinning, the head is more often able to grab bits of data as they spin past, upping read efficiency.

My Compaq with a 1800+ Athlon with 512MB Micron and 80GB WD hard drive used to score higher than P4 systems...it was really screwed up

any1 have any explanations as to why this is?

That PCMark04 is a lousy drive benchmark? Did you try any 'real-world' tests (like just copying files around, etc.)?
