Guess being dragged thru the courts by Apple didn't hurt Samsung too much. :)

Samsung is expected to account for 29 percent of worldwide cell phone shipments, up from 21 percent in 2011, when it nabbed the No. 2 spot in the market. Meanwhile, Nokia's share this year will drop from 30 percent to 24 percent this year. Nokia had held the top spot in the mobile phone market since 1998.

And the OP didn't cherry pick, he posted it as PCMag did. Samsung knocked Nokia out of the top spot, a position they've held since 1998. Thats what happens when you stagnant, same thing happened to RIM.

From your own post it's clear that Apple is the #2 smartphone maker...

Well nowadays the term dumb phone is a bit ambiguous. Yes there are real dumb phones like simple flip phones, but Nokia also makes alot of feature rich dumb phones that have internet, music, even touchscreens, etc.

True, but to me anything that doesn't run a modern web browser is a dumb phone.

If windows phone takes off Nokia has a chance at increasing it's market share I'd think....Samsung seems to be picking up steam at a steady pace tho.

Apple grew 1% in the smartphone marketshare while Samsung grew by 8%, it's going to be an interesting 2013.

The difference is that Apple's numbers come from Apple whereas Samsung's numbers come from analysts. Samsung started hiding their numbers after they got sued by Apple...

Not entirely true....Take the Olympics for example people/countries are happy with silver or bronze medals also.
