Have the OCZ PCIe SSD's gotten any better? I just upgraded to Haswell, and I am running low on SSD storage, and was thinking about picking up one of the 960GB versions so that the case stays as pretty as possible?

Are they speedy?

unless you're doing something that requires 230k IOPS, your money would be much better spent on the $600 crucial M500 960GB SATA3 drive. they make cards that you can slide SSDs in to to make them PCIe though, so you can have the benefit of it being "pretty". :)

I believe Crucial M500 is only SSD right now. Its about 600ish dollars but you will never run out of space which is cool part. Install 25 games and hoots of apps, and you still have plenty free.

My recommendation, Would be a 500GB Sammy 840 Pro OR Crucial .. OCZ can go out of business at any time, Dont trust them. gl

oh. thought you wanted a neat stack of cards. if it's any consolation, the ocz drives you can't use as a boot drive. a lot of people state that in the newegg reviews of their revos. unless something new changed.

Actually, reading it, it looks like you don't have to use the SATA cable. just lets you connect an additional one.

The Velocity Solo x2 takes just minutes to install. Simply connect your Solid State Drive to the Velocity Solo and slide the card into an available PCIe x2 slot (or larger) in your desktop. Once installed, transfer your OS and applications from your desktop hard drive to your new SSD using Apricorn’s EZ Gig cloning software for PC systems, or for the Mac Pro use Apple's built-in Disk Utility. For additional capacity, the Velocity Solo also provides an additional SATA III data connection that can be used to connect to another SSD or hard drive.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Compatible with 2.5" SATA III and SATA II SSDs and hard drives
Uses a single PCIe 2.0 x2 slot for data transfer speeds up to 550 MB/sec
Auxiliary SATA III port for additional expansion to any hard drive or SSD
Wen configured with two drives data transfer speeds of up to 800 MB/sec

Compatible with Desktop PCs and Apple's MacPro
Bootable in PC and Mac
Ideal for use as a boot disk or scratch disk
Includes Apricorn's EZ Gig Cloning Software with Data Select for Windows
Mac Users clone using Apple's built-in disk utility
Fits Standard Desktop Systems (not compatible with low profile systems)

This should come in today. I will let you know of the performace with 2 older drives. If it performs well, I will order another and 2 m500 960GB drives.

FYI, trim doesn't work with PCI SSD.

hopefully the onboard garbage collection is enough. since pcie drives can't be used as boot drives, i'm assuming it'll be for games/apps. not too much random writing to it.
