PCIE Riser to lift a video card

Hi all I recently added a TV tuner card and found out that once it was installed, it is on top of my video card. I think it is fine but the fan on the video card is louder since the tuner card it on top of it. Everything works fine and I don't do any gaming, if that matters.

My question is this: I ran across a PCIE riser card from a LC11 HTPC case. Seen here: http://www.sundialmicro.com/Ri...ard-lc11_1972_385.html

I do see where the riser is typically meant to allow the video card to sit parallel to the board. This one had an extender that looks like it could be used to raise a card up. Do you think this would work to raise my pcie x16 video card up a little to allow the fan more room? Other than the case noise, so you think this will cause any long term concerns if I leave it like it is?

Your only concern with using that is how are you going to access the VGA/DVI port to plug your monitor in? If you use it you'll have to keep the side of your case off so that the card can sit in it. Now i assume you have an mATX mothetboard since there isn't a PCI slot further away from the video card.

That riser card is ment to be used in some Silverstone low profile cases. In those cases the PCI slot is parallel with the motherboard.

There is a company making every imaginable variety of riser cards, but backplane slots limit the usability of such devices. As comparatively inexpensive and widely available as Tuner Cards are, if I were you, I'd try to take that one back and get another using a different interface of some kind. Plain old PCI slots are far removed from the video slot compared to PCIe(1).

Man, I had a brain lapse. In my haste to see if this would be compatible, I completely forgot about the monitor connection. Man that is nuts!

Thanks all. In hindsite , I should not have bought a card to use right next to another. They did fit but not as well as I would like.
