Good news, it started at $799.99 and has dropped $100 in the last 12 hours. Now, $150-$200 more and it will be priced fairly.

rofl... what morons, they shoudl be bombarded with nasty e-mails for trying to price gauge like that. only a fool would pay that price for a 400 dollar card.

Looking at pricewatch, there are 3 places listing the PCI-E XFX 6800GT for ~$490. GameVE, Xtremegear, and Allstarshop. Never bought from any of them, so I can't comment on their service, 55%, 76%, and 85% positive feedbacks in same order. Allstarshop also says doom3 comes with the card.

Does anyone else remember when the $380 dollar 9700 Pro made us balk at it's ridiculously high price?

Now, top end cards have MSRPs of $500 or more. It's getting ridiculous.

How many are in stock? I'll take 50!

Seriously, that is terrible price gouging. It's currently $699; that's how much an SLI setup should cost with these babies 😉 .

yes they're all cheaper, but they're all out of stock. but at $700, what a steal!! 😀

Don't you love it!

Hello Timothy,
This email is in response to the message you posted to our website where you
wrote that our price for the eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GT PCI Express, part number
322704, is way too high. Due to market volatility, prices are subject to
change quite frequently. As a result, we update our prices in accordance
with the market value. For a high demand item such as this, the market value
is higher than when it is low demand. Eventually the price might stabilize,
but it is impossible to say when or if this will happen.

Sincerely,
Brian McGraw

This ridiculous pricing of the 6800GT PCI-E is the reason I decided to move to 2x6600GT's in SLI. For $370 shipped I can have 2 6600GT's in SLI mode, which is still less than a single 6800GT. And since they jacked the price up $100 on the PCI-E Version of the 6800GT I definately am not getting one now. It was bad enough that they were $400, but now they trying to make it $500+ I seen the benchmarks, and definately the 6600GT's are worth it.

2x6600GT's outperforms the 6800GT in every test except with 4x AA and 8x AF. But at 1600x1200 I dont think thats too important anyway

I wouldn't count on it. They sold out of the Asus X800XT they had at $900.

Are the next gen cards still that rare as to allow price gouging? Damn. I've been gone since August...
