There is definitely a patent dispute going on behind the curtain that is preventing advancement. PCIE4 is just smoke and mirrors to give these companies time to tap dance.

My predictions is we will see a merger in order for PCIE5 and 8k rolling out.

And just where are you getting your information at and/or what are you basing these predictions on?

Keep in mind that is no real need for PCIe 5 just yet at the consumer level. And just when do you think 8K gaming capable dGPU will be released, at what price tag? The vast majority of gamers are still at 1080p.

I hope that this thread will be closed by the mods soon. I asked a question and it was answered. The same poster keeps derailing any discussion on topic with various conspiracy theories and off-topic bombastic statements. Yes, all the companies are working together with the government to prevent us from having PCIe 5, 16k resolution, DDR 8, etc. And they will all merge into a giant hive mind destroying us all. Please close the thread.

I'm actually quite happy what I have now - minus a 144hz display and GPU. Lot of us have a closet full of spare parts in the closet but it's an odd moment right now. It's a crappy time to upgrade but perfect time to upgrade at the same time.

And why is it a perfect time to upgrade? dGPUs cost more then they used too at least on Nvidia's side. And you haven't answered my questions.

Given the recent history and expecially the 1080ti, the best time to upgrade is when the first 7nm gaming gpus hit the market. radeon vii isn't it. It will probably cost around the $800 mark but given history stay relevant or even the leader for several years.

Dell is already selling 8K displays from what I've seen. This is really making things confusing for people, other then myself.

When PCIE4 rolls out, it's always better to wait till Revision 2 & 3 so things get ironed out, but by the time Rev. 3 comes out, a whole new generation past Navi will be out that will really have the 4K support people should be having now or last year.

8K displays are currently useful for pro photographers, media specialists, and maybe some niche video folk. Those displays aren't for gamers. Not even close.

While I agree that it is best to wait until 7nm dGPUs arrive before upgrading, my point was that dGPUs are costing more right now so it isn't a good time to upgrade.

Anyone that just wants to believe conspiracy exists behind every corner, is to going to find evidence for it wherever they look--because whatever they see, as unrelated as it is, is going to be used to justify an unjustifiable belief.

"Rumors" that Intel is buying AMD is an annual thing. It is as predictable as the number of days in a year. Fact is, AMD is one of most heavily-manipulated stocks on the NASDAQ because it is a very volatile day trader. This same nonsense Intel rumor happens every year, at nearly the same time. Call that a conspiracy theory if you wish, but it actually exists. And it's not insane because this is simply how large sectors of the market work, and it's not really a bad thing or a good thing--it just is (short sellers, in general, have real value because they are pretty good at sniffing out and taking down very bad, often fraudulent companies). You just have to point to a lot of the hilariously fake disinformation campaigns launched against AMD, particularly that one earlier last year from a well-known group of stock shorters, that invented a bug-testing company and slides just to trump up some mundane (nearly impossible) exploits as catastrophic world-ending flaws in Ryzen architecture, to understand that these rumors only ever come from trading groups (seeking to profit off of daily paper), and not actual tech-based industry reality.

I plan on getting a new PCI 4.0 motherboard in three years. It will all be that standard then.
