Silly question
my Wife's rig is a foxconn p35a mb pic of mb
It has 2 pcie 16x slots
and one pcie 1x slot

now im looking for a wireless nic card and I see that they come in pci-e flavor
but her video card has a zalman cooler that blocks the little pcie 1x slot

my question is can I use the other pcie16x slot for the wireless pcie 1x card (since I know she will never use a dual video card setup) ?

or stick with regular pci wireless card?

Basically, yes. A regular wireless PCI card may be cheaper than a PCI-E one, though. You can put a PCI-E x1 card in a PCI-E x16 slot. According to wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express ), "a PCIe card will physically fit (and work correctly) in any slot that is at least as large as it is (e.g. an x1 sized card will work in any sized slot)".

thanks for the reply

yea a pci card is cheaper but not by much

I was reading how pcie has a faster bus, not sure if that matters for a wireless card?

Won't make any difference.
