PCI-X availability

Just curious,

is there any other company other than eVGA offering geforce 6800 ultra pci express? Most companies offer pci-x but for lower end cards like 6600gt or 6800gt. GameVE.com has it on its website, but none in stock so far. This card is just as hard to acquire as nforce4 or even abit ax8 motherboards!

on a side note: does anybody know if DFI will offer socket 939 lanparty mobo's w/ pci-x? they currently have one for socket 754 amd athlon 64's. Abit's AX8 mobo is the closest to pci-x socket 939, just none to be found. I'd rather purchase these motherboards now than have buggy 1st rev nforce4 boards.

To answer the OP's question... eVGA is usually one of the first nVidia board partners to come out with new stuff, and even they don't have the 6800Ultra PCIe on their website yet. I just don't think that PCIe highend cards or nForce4 are out yet.

sorry bout that guys, didnt know the diff till today. PCI - E~! thanks for the links nitromullet; very informative.

That would make me really happy. But it's not like anyone would read it... :disgust:

Jeez, such hostility 🙂. I think that video card companies are part to blame for people getting the two mixed up, as they sometimes list their PCIe cards as PCX.

Here's one example of eVGA listing their 6800 GT PCIe as PCX:

PCX

Right, but PCX is just a stupid notation for PCI Express. It's not inherently wrong, just lame.

It's PCI-X that's the wrong one, and that's only because PCI-X is the older standard which expanded on regular PCI by giving it 64-bits instead of 32-bits and often running at double the frequency as well, 66MHz vs. 33 MHz.

It causes for confusion, but it's not an impossible notation.

PCI-E, "PCX", etc is PCI Express

PCI-X is 64-bit PCI (ie on dual processor boards). You can tell it's 64-bit due to the longer slot with more pins.

I agree.

I don't see the point in getting worked up over a simple letter from the alphabet being put in the wrong place.

It's less of an issue in Video, but in the GH forum, where people actually might want to talk about PCI-X peripherals, not just PCI-E, it gets confusing and annoying really quickly. It also displays inattention and/or ignorance on the part of the poster.
