Yeah, tell him that pci videocards suck, so he needs to buy a new motherboard and an agp videocard.😀His budget is under $70. Any opinions?

Thats looks to be a 64 bit PCI card..so unless he has a server board he probably won't be able to use it..of course they could be backwards compatible, not sure about that...
It is 64-bit: link. The 7000 on that page would work just fine, especially since it's performance will be so drastically limited by the pci bus's limited bandwidth.😉Originally posted by: stevty2889

Anyway, to give any real advice on video cards for your friend, you should tell us a little about the system. I mean, if his system is ancient, no card will help much. If he's got, say, a 1GHz + system with "Intel Extreme Graphics," then there may be hope.
The $44 XFX GeForce MX4000 64MB DDR 128-bit looks like it would be a great card, but I it's a misprint -- all MX4000's are 64-bit AFAIK. I also think it's lying about being a DX8 card.
The $54 Sapphire 9200SE is definitely the best deal.
To put things in perspective, though, the regular Radeon 9200 performs almost identically to the nForce2 integrated graphics according to this article:
http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040211/radeon_9100-14.html
That's the regular Radeon 9200, which is 128-bit. The 9200SE is 64-bit and therefore slower (not to mention the fact that PCI will slow down texture transfer). So, for $54, you will get graphics that are inferior to the integrated graphics on a $65 nForce2 IGP motherboard. In other words, chances are that you'd be much better off saving that $70 and getting a new board/CPU. The $65 Biostar M7NGC nForce2 IGP is actually a great board I've been using in cheaper systems lately. I don't know how practical it would be for you to get, since we might be talking about a Compaq Pentium III, in which case you'd need a new case, memory, board and RAM.
What do you mean they didn't work? What was the problem? He's tried to get agp cards in the past, he has tried 3, but every one of them hasn't worked. So he's trying a PCI card now. He's low on $$ so no motherboard right now .
