PCI Video card with LCD Monitor?

Hi,

My boss wants me to set up this machine that doesn't have an AGP slot in it with a LCD monitor. I was planning on getting him a Samsung 770TFT monitor. But, I know I'm going to need to replace the video card since the current card is just built into the motherboard, and I'm pretty sure that it won't drive the LCD display...

Does anybody have any suggestions? This machine won't be doing any 3d stuff, so really having nice 2d display on the LCD is the important thing.

Thanks!

the 770tft supports both dvi and analog. I think its was $1200 at onvia, and they had a 100 off 1000 coupon and 100 rebate. I dont think so anymore though. But still it supports both analog and digital so you probably wont have to change cards

Ah, that's great to know. I didn't realize that it'd be able to run off an analog signal. Is there any visual difference between analog and digital mode?

I still will need to get a new video adapter, I think because the current one only goes up to 800x600 at anything over 256 colors. (Although the lady who's going to use it may want to run at 800x600 anyways...). What would be a good choice for a PCI card? I'll be running Windows 2000 Professional on the machine.

I told my boss about this limitation, and he said to go ahead and get another card. Up to $150 would be ok.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Any suggestions? I'm hoping to place the order for these things soon... :) Only having PCI choices makes things a lot harder!

Thanks!

analog quality might be a small bit worse, because of the double digital analog conversion, but its nothing your boss could really notice, if they are just using a computer at 800x600, they probably wont. If you just want a 2d card, then might as well just pick up a pci rage pro based card from ATI or something like that.
