PCI TV Tuners

I'm in the market to find one to record videos in MPEG2 format to my hard drive. Which card would give me the best bang for my buck? I'm not looking to spend a whole lot but I kind of would like to have one.

Hardware encoder or no? If no, I've had great results in the past with the Leadtek TV2000XP Deluxe (which has now been passed onto my brother since I bought an HDTV tuner). $45 or so at Newegg. 🙂

Yes, the Leadtek is seems to be the least problematic if not the best card for the price. The XP Deluxe uses the excellent Conexant 88x chipset featuring a 10-bit converter that rivals or bests Phillips'. It also features an FM tuner, which is also good for condensing home entertainment. You can save $10-20 if you don't need the TV/FM tuners and get a simple capture card.

using an Avermedia AverTV Stereo at the moment. I don't even know if this particular card is still being made, but I did get it for like $30. It can't do much, but it was cheap! 😀

Yeah, I looked at that and saw it. The only thing is that the MCE doesn't come with the remote. Will I need that?

And any other options will be considered, but hardware encoding in MPEG2 is very important.

I'd go for the Sapphire Theatrix $75/$78w/remote shipped from Newegg. Hardware encoding, 12 bit ADC, 3D comb filter. Cyberlink software is pretty basic and the remote works in MCE (not as good as the MCE remote IMO), PQ is excellent in MCE.
