PCI-Express

I've got a motherboard with a single PCI-Express x16 slot which is occupied by a Geforce 9800GT, 512MB. This card is PCI-Express 2.0 capable.

Question: How much (if any) improvement is possible if I upgrade to a motherboard with a PCI-Express 2.0 slot? Logically we are talking about doubling the PCI bus bandwidth per lane, but is that something I'll actually see?

Specs of relevance:
ASRock N68C-S UCC
AMD Phenom II X3 710 @ 2.4Ghz
Geforce 9800GT

You'd need a much more powerful card than 9800GT to see any substantial gain.
