...at what cost?

Can anyone tell me if you are losing performance by using a PCIe 2.0 card on a PCIe 1.0 motherboard? I'd really like to upgrade to a GeForce 9x card but I dont want to replace the mobo too. Will I be wasting some portion of the performance the card is capable of?

I've reviewed lots of resources including various tech sites and wikipedia but they all just mention its backwards compatible but they dont mention more than that.

Thanks!

It's all about bandwith, but right now, the highest end cards aren't even maxing out pci-e 16x slots, let alone pci-e 2.0 16x.
