PCI Ethernet Cards | Such a thing as a "best" card?

The topic really kind of says it all. Is there an ethernet card that is considered better than the rest due to performance/reliability? In my uneducated observations, it seems to be as long as it transports data I have been happy.

Oh, and I should mention that I would prefer that it be detected by Windows XP instead of having to manually install it (my old NIC requires this for some silly reason). My computer is used to connect to a cable modem for 'Net access in case you were wondering.

Thanks!

I've always like Intel nics, simply because their drivers are very powerful (load balancing, etc)

But for home use, they're really all pretty much the same IMHO.
