PCI-E x8

Hi, I got a SC420 from Dell and it has a pci-express slot. Anyways, I ordered a normal pci-e x16 videocard and it doesn't fit in the socket. After that I checked it through google and the motherboard from the SC420 actually only supports PCI-E x8. I can't find a PCI-E x8 videocard on newegg. Anyone know where should I buy it from now? I just need a videocard that I can run DirectX 9.0C on and play Sims2. that's all. if anyone helps me, it would be nice.

ps: i was going to call Dell but I thought I should post here before doing that.

I think what you mean is a AGP 4X/8X and I had the same problem. I just picked up a Radeon 9600SE at Circuit City and my dell runs Sims 2 with a ease. Also runs DirectX 9.0C

trust me, it's pci-express x8. it's not agp 8x. i triple checked it - even tried putting a MX440 in. was no use

Ok, so now just do a little research search around for a 8X video card doesn't have to ber top of the line because all Sims 2 requires is Radeon 7200

proceed at your own risk!

It's not worth it imo. I saw that already but I do not want to do that. I just want to return my x16 videocard(X300) and buy a PCI-E x8 videocard. saves all the trouble because if anything goes wrong, I would be completely screwed and would have to spend another 250 bucks...

There are a few PCI-E 1x graphics cards; one of them is made by Matrox. Unfortunately, you won't set any speed records with that card, but it would fit in your PCI-E slot.

Would I be able to install directX 9.0C and play Sims 2 with that?

Yeah, but it would be slow as #$&).

This is because Dell doesn't follow industry standards and builds their machines to save cost, not to make them upgradeable.
I have no idea why Dell put in a PCIx16 slot with two ramdon dividers on that board, but doing surgery is the only way you can get a PCI-e card in there.

No, there is no such such thing as a PCIx8 card on the market. All of them are x16
I am suprised PCIx1 cards exist. Don't expect to get any performance out of that.

Use a standard PCI card. No speed demons either, but yu bought the Dell, this is the price you pay !
