Searching on the MSI site I think the "x" in the mfg part number means 12 pipelines?

Just ordered mine - I'm in CA and got charged tax :-(

But still a sweet deal for PCI-E w/ dual DVI

And "Item not refundable" makes you wonder if their intent was to screw ppl over... Especially considering the rest of their video cards have a 7 day refund period

I couldn't find no mention of the 12 pipelines on the op's link.
But of course going to MSI's site and searching for the part #, it comes up as 12 pipelines.
This does seem shady, almost misleading.

not true, even their regular 16 pipe 6800GT card (linked above) is non-refundable. I guess that's GameVE's usual policy, which is not that great, but is similar to many other's (like zipzoomfly).

The naming issue is MSI's fault - they came up with the 6800GTX variation which has similar specs to a GT (350/1000) but with only 12 pipes. Kinda weird since I never heard of Nvidia anouncing such a model, so I'm not sure how exactly they did it - I assume that only Nvidia can diable pipes, so probably this is an overclocked 6800NU ?

Either way, Nvidia should be more vigilant in enforcing naming conventions of its GPU based cards by the various partners. They should not allow MSI to use the GTX name because it's clearly too similar to GT (btw, I heard there's also a 6800GTO ?) This reminds me how PowerColor (may they go bankrupt) used to sell 9600 Pro EZ cards (note that devious "EZ" designation) which were actually 9600 non-pro but slightly overclocked. Clearly some of these card vendors are abusing the naming standards, which could backfire on the GPU makers.

Look at the RAM in the specs (near the bottom) as well - looks to be 400DDR or 800MHz - not 1000MHz like the actual 6800GT. However, the top says 1000MHz w/350 core. This is ridiculous naming - even MSI's stie lists the RAM at 400MHz. Looks like more of an overclocked 6800NU than a GT.

yep, it's probably an overclocked 6800NU

btw, to the guy who thought it was a good deal even with sales tax in CA ("yekim") - I've seen REAL 6800GT for $370 with free shipping and no tax to CA in a few places online, so it would be better then this deal (even if this was a real 6800GT). Ergo, this is not a good deal for CA even if it was a real 6800GT

you fool 400 Mhz RAMDAC is not the memory's speed. The memory's speed is actually not specified anywhere on MSI's site, but it is specified in gameVE's site as 350/1000 (should also be shown on the box). Also MSI clearly says it's a 6800GT so I'm not sure how the hell it could have only 12 pipes ? maybe it's a typo - otherwise Nvidia should do something about these vendors calling their cards 6800GT when its not (6800GT must have 16 pipes).

And btw everyone in CA - there IS TAX IN CA !!!!!

Same thing as a Dell GTO basically. With the GTO you can unlock the extra 4 pipes If I recall correctly.

Anyone who got ripped off on this needs to grab GameVE and MSI by the balls. This is BS. I'd imagine they could easily be help liable for this, get in touch w/your BBB and State AG. If this happened to me I would be SO pissed off :|

say, did NV fix the WMVHD acceleration for 6800 series or are we still stuck with 6600GT only?
