PCI-E 2.0

Not much, provided that your PCI-E slot operates at the full speed (x16) mode. It still provides for a lot of bidirectional bandwidth.

Edit:
Look Here

Your PCI-E x16 1.0 slot corresponds to PCI-E 2.0 working at the x8 speed.
As you can see the diff in performance is small, frequently less than 1%

Edit2: Looks like even at PCI-E 2.0 working at x4 speed is still surprisingly fast.

I have a delima regarding PCIe 2.0 vs PCIe 1.0. I'm building a new rig with a P180 Mini White case, which only accepts mATX boards. I've been waiting for the DFI Lanparty Jr series boards that have PCIe 2.0 support, because I want to maximize my bandwidth for my 4870, but I plan I on upgrading to nehalem when it comes out, which is the end of the year/beg of 2009 if I'm not mistaken?

Is it worth it to keep waiting for the lanparty jr boards that cost 200+ or just plop a asus hdmi mATX board in there with PCIe 1.0 support, since I plan to upgrade to nehalem within the year?

nehalem not going to even use the 775 socket so no use

Yes I know that, the mATX mobo I decide on will be a placeholder until Nehalem. It's just that I don't know how long I will have to keep it until Nehalem comes out, because my case only takes mATX so I'll most likely have to wait even longer because after Nehalem comes out I'll have to wait also for Nehalem mATX boards.
