PCI-E 16x board in an 8x slot?

just wondering if this board would work in a dell SC420. I saw a note somewhere that some plastic has to be broken to make the card fit... Someone even got it to boot.

What do you guys think about the level of stability / performance that can be had with such a retrofit?

Yes it can but maybe not the ATI, looks like Nvidia's will work though. This guy put a 6600GT in a PowerEdge SC420 by breaking out the plastic divider. Read this thread http://www.aaltonen.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1999

thx, that's the thread i was looking for. Looks like this is the only success story so far, I was just looking for a general feel if this type of thing produces reliable results.
