Right now, Far Cry 4 reviews are popping up all over the internet. It is, by all reports, a great game. Unfortunately, we can neither confirm or deny that assessment. More troubling, given the launch state of Assassin's Creed: Unity, is that we can't tell you how it performs on PC. The reason is simple: we haven't yet received code.
If you're getting a sense of deja vu, it's because exactly the same thing happened with Unity. For Far Cry 4, Ubisoft held a console review event; giving multi-platform outlets the chance to have their reviews in place for today's embargo. We, naturally, need to play the game on PC. Last night, we were informed that code wouldn't arrive until Tuesday, the date of the game's launch.

We asked Ubisoft for an official statement, which you will find below:

"The reason why we did not provide review code until now is that there is a title update which won’t be available before Monday prior to launch. However, we will officially communicate on the title update prior the release of the game so consumers are aware."

Please be a good game.

PC Gamer musta pissed off Ubisoft, and this is their revenge.

This kinda stuff with new releases being buggy or not properly reviewed before release is why I am glad I am too old to play FPS titles well anymore. If I want to play a horribly coded mess, I will continue to feed my Company of Heroes 2 addiction.

I wouldn't be surprised. This is the same Ubisoft that "gifted" free Nexus 7 tablets to reviewers during a Watch Dog preview event. Maybe if they spent twice as much on development & testing instead of over-hype marketing they wouldn't have to try & control journalists so much... :whiste:

Supposedly early word is that it runs way better (well its a cross platform Dunia 2 game), at least then Unity.

Did you really think it was possible for them to release a worse optimized game than Unity directly after it's release?

Actually, now that I think about it... possibly lol...

Similar issue that ign has. They have the game for PC on hand, but since it requires online registration they can't play it until release. They've also held off official review score until the PC version is playable.

Ubisoft wants to punish independent review sites for being honest?

That's the way it works in print media these days. You are reviewing games from the same companies that advertise and buy ad space on both your print mag and website. Give an honest appraisal of a title that has issues, and you run the risk of getting future releases held back or those ads pulled. Being honest is hard to do when you need every last advertising dollar waved in your face.

But if you overlook any glaring bugs or ignore game issues, then you piss off the gamer who bought that title based on your glowing review. Those gamers buy your mag, so if you don't review honestly, you aren't going to be selling those mags or bringing in web traffic.

It's a real balancing act for reviewers. They cannot satisfy all parties all of the time. We as gamers need to rely on more than one review before plunking down our cash for an AAA title these days.

Unity throws more polys then it should. I shifted over to advanced warfare and at max settings I was getting smooth framerates. Atleast they realized when you are creating a competitive fps, of all things you need a smooth and consistent fps. I hear the pc version of co-op in unity is like totally broken so I'm prolly going to play other games (I just got into ff14 as well) and wait for patches to fix unity. Also of course dragon age is this week.

It's a great game! Far Cry 3 opening was much better though. Just bought DA Inquisition, too.

Digital Foundry reports that FC4 runs very well on PS4 (1080P, more or less locked at 30 fps), backed up by HRAA: a mix of temporal and morphological anti-aliasing methods -- that is far superior to FXAA or TXAA since it doesn't induce blur.

While not quite good enough imo for a true next game, graphics do look good for a console game with low-end hardware. "PS4’s visual setup is easily comparable with 2012's Far Cry 3 on a PC's maximum settings. Through a rapid pixel-count, it's easy to see the PS4 absolutely delivers on this full 1920x1080 promise - with none of the frame-rate problems seen in its Ubisoft stablemate." ~ Digital Foundry

I think it looks good, but why not open it up to the PC modding community to improve it further? Sandbox games like this are perfect for that.

That will infringe on the potential of future DLC. Game publishers won't like that.

Good for them. Ill keep reading their reviews. Ubisoft wants to punish independant review sites for being honest?

This.

Been a fan of PC Gamer for a LONG time and one of the few online/print media sites I still trust. 90%+ rating still mean the game is excellent...they don't inflate a game scores and look out for the PC gamers. Big fan here.

Also why I don't buy games at retail price any more. I don't mind waiting a year or more for there to be a ton of reviews and the game to be $10. Plus by then it's patched and plays like it probably was supposed to in the first place.

Been playing PC and console games for over 30 years and can't see spending more than $20 for a game ever again. Don't trust publishers or reviewers any more.

Hell I'm still angry at Pontifex for selling me Hellgate: London several years ago for $10!

Hmm... I never read reviews for games (I rarely purchase that many games anyway) but I checked out their site and the ratings were quite "tough" from what I saw. The accelerometer(that how you say it?) rating thing is annoying though but it affirmed some titles I should buy and made me second guess some others.

Valk Chronicles I might buy tonight when I get home depending on how inebriated I am lol. It may also quickly show how frustrated I get with the game but a new tactics game?

I LOVE tactics games. If only war were a big strategy game I could play all day. I would never get bored of it.

I'd be wary taking advice from somewhere that thinks 30fps is running "very well"

I'd describe that as barely playable, i'd describe 60fps as running "OK" or maybe "well", I woulnd't start using the phrase "very well" until it's up in the 90+ FPS region.

I don't know why they just don't do 720p 60fps on consoles instead of 1080p 30fps. Much better experience. Unless they have a really big TV, most people probably couldn't tell the difference in resolution at normal viewing distances, but they could notice the increase in frame rate.

CPU is too weak as well.
