PCFriendly on DVDs. Do you install it? What are the issues?

I have a collection of around 50 DVDs. Many of these, when I insert them in my DVD drive on my computer, initially ask me if I want to install PCFriendly. A little dialog claims that the DVD contains features that will be supported once you do the installation. I've complied with this a few times but have found that my life suddenly got complicated in a way that I did not comprehend. I would be whisked away to websites, etc. I wanted to watch a movie. I use PowerDVD 3.0, and even if I refuse to install PCFriendly, it appears that I can watch the movie and access "special features", etc. So, to stop all the confusing stuff from happening (I don't remember it all - it's been a while), I uninstalled it. Do you install PCFriendly and do you think it's worth it? What are the issues?

I think those DVD installers install a basic DVD player for people who don't have one on their computers. Just use PowerDVD.

Darn thing doesn't say that. If that's the score, great. Just wanted to know. I have done some research but couldn't seem to find out the truth about it. It seems nutty.

Yeah, coincidence! I was about to watch The Matrix tonight for the first time (never saw it before) when the PCF install thingie came up and I posted this topic. I have many other DVD's that do this, though. I always say No now. PowerDVD seems to do all I need, and I know how to use it.

I think the software is crap. IMHO. And I think its not really a dvd player its kinda like windows media player. It requires software to be already installed that can play dvd's or you have to have a hardware decoder. If you try to watch a movie with just that with no dvd playing software i don't think it works
