On Saturday I ordered a thunderbird 900mhz from pccost.com and the site said in stock and would ship within 24 hours. That night I got the conformation email with the $165 price saying in stock. It has not shipped yet. It is now tuesday and they called asking me to cancel my order because they didn't have any.

Well they changed the price on the site to over $400 and it says in stock. They never said that it was a pricing error. The lady just suggested that I cancel because they did not have any in stock. I told her to keep the order open anyways.

The problem is that she said she didn't know how long it would take and they don't like to keep orders open. I'm supposed to call her back in two days.

How should I handle this situation?
Please help.

You should force them to ship it. Call them up, without telling them who you are, ask if the 900s are in stock. WHen they say yes, then bring your order out and say when are they going to ship it. If they have clause in their site saying that they are not held accountable for any missprints then you are out of luck. If they don't then they are forced to keep their side of the bargain. I am sure that if you make a big fuss about it and you have proofs of their errors, they will have to ship it to you at a lower price. If not, you can always treat this as a hostile retailer and protest to BBS.

Why not call up and proceed to order one at the $400 dollar price. Get the info from the sales person such as who they are, do they DEFINITLY have a number in stock, can you get overnight shipping, etc.... take it all of the way up to the point of giving the credit card info and then ask to speak to a manager. Recite what you were just told and ask for your chip to be sent. If they refuse, at least you know that they are out and out lying to you!

Hey my order for 2 600e's from AccessMicro for $35 is still on hold for a few months. I think they originally said it was a discontinued item but it's on their site now. But I guess I have no chance if getting it eh?

Thanks for the suggestions. The day that they called and asked me to cancel I tried the in stock trick. I hung up and dialed the 1-800-877-9442 number. Someone answered and I asked if the thunderbird 900 was in stock and she said yes. I then asked why then hasn't my order been shipped. I was put on hold and they came back on the phone and said that it wasn't in stock and they answered my question that the 700mhz thunderbird was in stock. Liars.

I'm supposed to call them back tomorrow.

Anybody esle willing to try and call them and see if they have any in stock and then post in here? If you try please get the name of the person you talked to and the time.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know who is being more dishonest here, but it sucks to be on either side. Let it go, man, cuz you're probably sticking it to a small business owner just trying to make an honest dollar.

geez... quit trying to take advantage of people's mistakes. sure, they probably lied to you to cover $200+. but you're also trying to steal that $200. give it up.

Kjazlaw,

this is different...it's price error which they should honor...it's not like that buy.com cuopon thing where it states clearly $50 off $500 yet ppl still take advantage...pccost accepted the order and confirm the order...jeffery has every right to demand them ship the cpu to him...

jeffery...try the in stock trick again...and this time...actually pretend you are trying to place an order...and demand to take to supervisor and tell them you will report them if they don't ship the cpu to you...

Kjazlaw Get a life.

I gave-up on the 64mb Geforce Prophet2 from Onvia.
I also gave up on the 19" hitachi monitor from buy.com that happend way before you two were even members (the reason the hot deals forum was created.)

--Onvia is a great company with great customer service. I felt that they should be left alone.
--Buy.com had a pricing error and they owned up to it.
--Pccost told me that it was a good price and that they recieved a lot of orders, so they were out of stock. They didn't ship at that price in my opinion. They are calling everybody and giving lies and trying to force them to cancel. They deserve to ship it to me at the price they agreed to.

i've got an idea: why don't you try NOT living vicariously through other people's mistakes?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah, no, not another meaningless moral discussion!
Hasn't anyone ever heard of the tactic "Bait and Switch"?
Ever thought that they might have tried that? They might have even put the $164 price up just so people are aware of their store then buy a different product from them when they find out none are in stock. This happens all the time, with many different businesses. Most of the time this has happened to me has been with the "small business owners" that are just trying to make an "honest dollar".
I don't think that pricing was a mistake. You can think whatever you want, but don't condemn jeffrey for wanting a product he bought at a price that he bought it at. He isn't lying or stealing anything. If I were him, I would have cancelled the order by now if it weren't for the fact that if they really are out of stock, they are still lying to and baiting customers by saying on their site that it is still in stock. If they aren't out of stock they are incredibly incompetent.

Kjazlaw- What is your problem??? He placed an order for a product at a given price, and they accepted his order and sent him a confirmation e-mail. They may have posted the price incorrectly, but that is their problem. He is entitled to the order at that price. Haven't you ever heard of customer service? Maybe you should just take a deep breath, and relax. Were you just elected "Champion of Internet Businesses Everywhere"?

BTW- Where do you get off telling him he is "stealing"? Do you have a dictionary nearby???

No one is entitled to anything when purchasing from a vendor unless the vendor takes the money and won't return it.
You may have seen signs in certain establishments - We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone - well this holds true for online vendors as well and you don't need a reason, if a vendor mis-prices something and honors that price, he's does it because he wants to, not because he has to. - M.
