Ah, so that's why the fry's is cheaper, it has the older timings.
See You get the discount, but you lose out in the timings.
I wonder how much of a differeence the new chips with the slightyl better timings are? Is it worth the extra 30$

$285 at newegg,

But what is Dual Channel Optimized. Maybe thats what SHady meant about kit's being optimized.
Maybe the Kingston hyperX 1gb Kit really is 2-2-2-5?

Ok. Sent a message to newegg about the claim of the timings. Maybe they can help.
Put that legendary Customer Service to the test.

You'll probably get the newer one from Fry's, it's just they didn't change the specs on their site.

How would I be able to tell what type of ram that is? Besides, looking at it, would timing nfo
be on the memory chip itself?

Has anybody ordered it? From Fryes?

Would you recommend buying a kit, or getting 2 seperate ones? (the only reason is 2 seperate ones are 30$ than the kit)

Google specs for the 1gb kit are the same as the single, But newegg says the kit has better timings. I'm now inclined to believe that
it's all the same chips, and that I should just buy the 2 single sticks at outpost. SInce it's all reatail boxs etc.

link to reviews on ram

Interesting I think I understand a little more about, programing (seems anybody can overide that in the bios)

I saw that best buy had the kingston 3500mem for 99$ wish I had gotten some of that...sigh.

SO I guess i'm stuck with the outpost deal. Unless I just wimp out and get some cheaper 3200 mem.

With pc4000 500mhz Ram coming out, will that drive down the memory prices abit? It should but how long will it take? SHould I hold out a week?

I feel like this thread is such a drama, Which Ram will he buy? Is he going to pay outraguous prices on Ram?

How can he overcome this fog in Ram land?

Who can save him?

Vito - what ram did you go with?

Newegg patched me through to thier tech support,
They gave me a similar answer that Shady6 did.
The timings in the outpost are old, and the newer timings are better. 2-3-3-7
and posted on kingston website. No answer about the Dual kit though with 2-2-2-5 Settings.

Very nice, Newegg responded in 2 days, which for me was fine.

I've already ordered a 2.8c and abit Is7 from them.
Maybe they might price match me to the outpost. Cross my fingers.
I'll Post if they do, maybe even under hot deals.

I asked if Newegg would pricematch to that hyperx 3500 ram at outpost for $119.
Ordered my p4.2.8c and is7 from Newegg.
Still trying to decide on ram. (really tough decision. I want to run the 2.8c at about 3.2 or if I can push it with the Zalman
maybe 3.6. At this point I feel like the ram I get will decide how fast thing will actually go. Problem is wallet slim now.)

From what I've read it seems that OCZ memory really is faster than Corsair now, even though a few short months ago I remember otherwise🙂. I've ended up ordering 2x512MB modules of OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum Edition, which I figure at worst will run DDR400 at fast timings. I have a faint hope that it might reach DDR500 speeds since it (in theory) should be using the same chips as their just-announced PC4000 RAM (which won't hit stores for quite some time probably). BTW, Corsair uses 5ns chips and OCZ uses 4.5ns chips.

Just some info that might help you. I have a P4 2.4c with HyperX PC3500 and it won't run to spec no matter what I try on the IS7 board. CUrrently I have it overclocked to 3120mhz at a memory bus speed of 416. It is rated at 434 and I can't get there no matter what timings i use. Also this is kinda wierd. At vdimm 2.8 it crashes prime95 on the first test, but at default voltage 2.6 and the same bus speed it runs stable under prime95

Not a bad overclock i supose but it is frustrating that the memory is holding me back right now especially since my CPU is still at the default voltage.

Bill,

Can you tell if you got the Kingston hyperx rated at the new speed, 2-3-3-7 or the old speed as found in the Outpost ram?
" The older HyperX PC3500 was rated for 2-4-4-8, but Kingston changed it a few months ago to 2-3-3-7"
Maybe that's the problem, and the older ones really can't do 434.

humm. well in the bios it defaults to 2-7-3-3. Is that accurate? If not is there another way to tell cause if that's the case I'm returning this memory for the newer stuff.

Yup you got the newer one. Just your reading is moved around. WHat board you using?

Vito

sorry, re-read your original post. You already posted which board.

Call Kingston, maybe thier tech support can help you.
Maybe a senior member here, might have some advice?

Memoryx.com has twinmos 3700 for 120$ is that good deal?
Seems better than the kingston hyperx, now that newegg has raised thier price from $130 to $140.
No response from the pricematch to Outpost, still at $119.

I think that 3700 would be better than 3500, but problem is Never bought from MemoryX before.

Anybody buy from them, they have not so many reiveiws on www.resellerratings.com
memoryx

Response from Memoryx in 10 min. I don't think they are recommending it for my board.
Pretty honest of them. Saves me from finding out hard way. Not sure what relabeled means?

Hello,

Twinmoss will not make claims that it works well with this board.

Spencer
